Hay i brought my first house sep 2013. i got a tv license shortly after and they charged me around £24.25 DD for the first 6 months then the normal £12.12. I presumed this was because they wanted to be 6 months in advance but my friend reckons they were just making there money back for the 6 months the house was empty before i brought it. Do you think this is correct and if so can i get a refund from then?
Thanks for any help.

It's explained on their website. The first 6 months are around £24, then it's £12 after that:

Yep as stated.
Still an absolute con, no need to pay 6 months in advance they could just do it monthly as per Sky, Virgin, Mobile phones and every other service I can think off.0 -
Hay so if i cancel, am i refunded that 6 months? Iv been looking through the TV license link that was posted and it says about refunds in 3 monthly amounts but DD are stated in cancellation without a refund. I'm not watching any telly at all, so will be cancelling it anyway and see what happens. Again thanks for any help.0

I have no idea if you are due a refund but I believe just cancelling will not trigger one if one is due. You need to request a refund as well as cancelling.0
