Country Roads

Around my way in deepest Suffolk some drivers use the centre of the road as a matter of course and only move to the left at the last minute.....quite nerve-racking as you wonder whether they've noticed you.
again there could be a logical explanation for this driving behavior, where i live and drive a lot of the roads have stone walls and hedges right up to the edge of the road
at this time of year a lot of the hedges are overgrown and encroaching on the road thus pushing drivers towards the middle of the road
I drive a transit as a works vehicle and there is nothing more frustrating than knocking off a £140.00 wing mirror on a branch sticking out the hedge
again i see lots of people seeking the security of the cats eyes and the white lines which are often far more defined than the soft verges0 -
I must admit that I drive in the middle too. There are no white lines, so why not? However, If I see somebody behind, or in front, that wants to pass, I move over to the left so that they can.
I usually end up having to use the verge when I want to overtake.0 -
I zip around in my SUV going through smallish gaps between the traffic and cars parked on the side of the road while people driving tiny little cars stop as they don't think there's enough room.
Some people just don't seem to be able to judge how much space they have. What will your verse be?

"Cats eyes"? We're not talking about the kind of roads that have them ...or even white lines.0 -
I'm impressed by your skill at the wheel.I zip around in my SUV going through smallish gaps between the traffic and cars parked on the side of the road while people driving tiny little cars stop as they don't think there's enough room.

well if that is the case and the road has no white line then it is deemed to narrow for two vehicles to safely pass
and as a result you have to use give and take and people will stop to let others through0 -

I live in a very rural area and i mean it is something like 60 miles to the nearest dual carriageway so mos of my driving is on rural roads
I know every inch of the roads around here and do not really have an issue in the van or the car because I know where i can pass a car or where i have to yield to a larger vehicle
the biggest problem is strangers that don't know the road and often a less that clean windscreen makes it hard for them to judge the gap and as a result they are often over cautious causing frustration to others
imagine that, strangers being cautious on roads they don't know - how dangerous!
The real problem with country roads is the yokels that tear round them and show no consideration to others that are not familiar with the roads. All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
Around here the biggest problem on country lanes are Chelsea tractors ,with petite mums driving, who can hardly see over the steering wheel, have no idea how big their tank is and could not ever let the tyres get dirty.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
