Hello can anyone help or have any similar situation to mine?

I have just had a bill for £125.00 this month for usage in July - 70GB use!!! Now bear in mind my average GB usage is 12gb over the past 18 months.

I have sent them an email , as I am sick of tehir customer service waiting times and music to let them know I think they have miscalculated and they then sent me a non-peronsable, standard email template explaining how I could have got to 70gb!!!!

You only have to look at my past bills to see I don't gon anywhere near this amount so there must be a fault somewhere but tehy don't care!!

Has anyone had this trouble before , I wouldn't mind but I only get connection speeds of 0.75 mb!! So to download 70 gb on taht speed would take some doing!

I am thinking of switching, the billing issue and the connection is so poor.

Anyone left Madasafish and had better life with someone else?

    Do you use a wireless router?

    Have you set up secure WPA-PSK encryption?

    Sounds like someone has used your bandwidth without your knowledge!

    Been watching lot of YouTube clips etc? Are you saying that you have not used 70GB? See the sticky about checking your bandwidth here.

    Yes I understand that you can check , but for someone like myself who never goes over the limit, I never do. I have not changed the way I use the internet for this particular month that is why I am so incensed the standard this why you could have reached it.

    I wouldn't know how to raech 70gb especially with my very poor connection times even though i'm so close to my checkpoint!

    I'm sure MAAF could supply a more detailed log of your usage i.e. sites visited over the last month etc.

    I think your title is completely misleading. Before you start ranting off have you contacted MAAF to see whet the situation is.

    Before you start to make comments like that you should at least have the decency to contact and give them the opportunity to see what the situation is.

    If you PM me your username I'll be happy to raise a ticket to have tech confirm if the usage has come from your line.

    A few things to consider if you've had a sharp rise in usage:

    1. Do you have an unsecured wireless network (you've already confirmed you don't).

    2. Do you use P2P and Newsgroups? These will eat an immense amount of usage if you're not careful.

    When you use programs like Limewire (just an example) it's set by default to download the files into a folder than then becomes accessible to others online who want to enjoy that file too. When others request the file and upload it from your machine that upload also counts in your usage.

    Of course, you can check your usage at any time in My Account. If you click on the month's usage you can get a breakdown by day. Usually when the upload data is equal to or greater than downloads it's P2P.

    3. Do you have a houseguest who is using the computer? I've seen a few instances where the offspring come back from uni/the brother-in-law moves in and usage goes through the roof.

    4. Have you recently discovered World of Warcraft or any similiar online game?

    You'll always get an email from us when you're about to go over a usage threshold. If you would like to get an email that warns for every GB exceeded beyond that you can set this up in "My Account":

    My Account > Internet > View your broadband usage history > tick the box that says "Please send me additional usage notification emails."
