Hi

Quick question, as I have always had iphones, and now got an android. My Kenwood headunit used to play my iPhone through via usb, but it doesn't recognise the samsung

I know the other option is the Aux cable, as its not bluetooth enabled, just wondered if anyone knows of any other way it maybe possible, and ill give it a try?

cheers!

    It should recognise the Samsung.

Go into settings -> more settings -> usb utilities, and change the connection type to media device ..

What version of Android are you on?

I beleive with 5.1 it is no longer supported due to Mass Storag being disabled on Android.

You can root the phone to get this back but I wouldn't recommend that.

Alternative is put the music on a USB stick or use Bluetooth.

I think that AndyPix and NickIt have got the issue worked out - Android devices used to play nice and act like USB sticks, which is what your head unit is expecting, but newer versions have stopped doing that (for security reasons, I think).
AndyPix seems to have a solution that I guess is specific to Samsung (can't find anything like that on my Xperia Z3).
Aux is fine if you can't get all that to work, but of course you'll have to control everything from the phone.

    Hi, cheers guys
I tried the above with no sucess, it just says N/A on my headunit regardless. I'll have to get a USB stick I think, as i'd rather the stearing wheel controls etc than trying the AUX cable, and the bluetooth attachment is £100, nearly as much as the headunit was :D

    I'm on adroid 4.4.2 currently

If you have a line in or aux socket, there are some very good, very cheap Bluetooth v3 audio adaptors available. I bought one recently for £8 (on eBay from a UK seller), so that my GF could pipe her iTunes through my old Sony stereo and the sound is pretty damn good (if slightly quiet).

The one I got is round in shape, with "Bluetooth" on top and 3 silver/chrome buttons at the front, it's got an internal battery that charges via USB.

I've just got one of these (BT 4.0).

It works just fine (except with my wife's kindle but she's always had BT problems with it).
  • I got mine for £1.20
I'm not saying it is better, just cheaper :-)

Great cheers, didnt even know those adapters existed :)

Do you have any experiance with them in a rear AUX input? as unfortunately mine is the the back of the headunit, though if its likely to work i'll get some keys and give it a go but I werent sure if it would fit? (bit clueless can you tell :D)

Failing that, would something like this work do you think? If I was to plug my phone into this cable once its connected to the AUX

Ideally, bluetooth adapter seems way forward at the moment, thanks again!

Check with Samsung to see when your phone will get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. This gives you a load of new features including multi-user and mass storage.

My tablet updated to Lollipop and one of the first things I noticed was that i now have a 'log in as guest' option on start up.
