To avoid this sort of thing, you can do the change of ownership online and keep hold of your paperwork.
You fill in the new keepers details, and tick a box to say that they are a trader, (or not if they are the purchaser) then the refund and "you are no longer the keeper" comes within a few days.0 -
Yes, most people don't know about it yet, and pay for a stamp to send the V5 back.
This way, you keep the V5 with the new keepers address, signature & dates, and get the transfer started as they pull off your drive.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Chances are your documents got lost in the post. Not DVLA's fault.0

I get further infuriated when I think that DVLA had the tax on my old car for May, and the tax on the replacement car for May and then for my old car, the tax for June from me and the new owner so DVLA for the two months actually received 4 months road tax.
They then say that they will not give me back one month because a bit of paper got lost- going to lie down now as the blood pressure is going up.......0 -
I believe your story and DVLA service is often very poor, but how can you irrefutably prove when the V5C/3 was signed?0

How does that prove what date you posted it to the DVLA?====0 -
The refund is based in the 12 month price, 6 month tax has a 10% fee added on which is non refundable.0

In hindsight (yes we all have 50/50) I should have sent it "signed for", never though their was a need to do this as I have never had a problem before-lesson learn't!0
