Thanks DocN for pointing that out. I was half expecting the answer to be because they do not have a UK registered address, they can't be taken to a UK court but it would seem you agree to be bound by their local law at time of your purchase.
I presume this warning should apply to others such as Tesco Jersey as well then?
In theory, yes. But it depends very much on the company. I'm no lover of Tesco (quite the reverse) but to be fair to them they won't try to cheat you out of your UK rights if you use their Jersey operation. Neither will Amazon. Both of them will treat you exactly as they would do if it had been a normal UK purchase.
Play, however, use their base of operation and their terms and conditions to make sure that you have no UK rights at all. They don't want to know if your nice new TV/phone/whatever packs up on day 36.
They even make it virtually impossible to email them, unless you hunt around amongst the forums to dig out an email address.
There are plenty of alternatives to Play - this is not a company you want or need to deal with.

OMG I did not know about this and I was going to buy a nice HDTV from Play. Thanks to the OP for posting this information. May just get it from Amazon or get a Credit Card to be fully protected.

I too was planning to repace all my domestic appliances at huge cost with ones from play, after I was warned on this forum that tescos are out to get us all, so now thanks to the level headed advice I've gained from threads like this I'll be getting it all from a nice nigerian bloke who's listing huge tellys for next to nothing on ebay...The money, Dave...0 -

Were you going to get the one that costs £629.99. If so that is the one I was going for. Amazon has it for the same price HOWEVER you have to pay an extra £29.99 for shipping UK mainland and dont even know what offshore cost is.I was planning on buying a 37" Samsung LCD in next few months and play looked favourable, but not any more, thanks for warning
.
If you are going to Play buy it using your Credit Card or one of your families cc.0
