It surprised me. I do buy from Play, albeit the Odd T shirt etc but its made me think twice about larger purchases.

I for one am grateful to the OP for pointing this out.:T

I second that, it's totally obvious when you think about it but it had honestly never crossed my mind, glad i never bought that 360 off play now and *touch wood* the 500gig seagate HD sitting next to me doesn't go wrong

Hopefully, I'm not going off topic, and I understand that Channel Islands are not part of UK and have their own parliament, (but they are a UK protectorate?) so we don't pay VAT on purchases, but for internet purchaes, is the transaction in the UK (where they buyer is & it is fulfilled) or the Channel islands (where the seller is & where it is despatched)?

Unfortunately, they've sewn this one up as well.

    Clause 32 of their T&C:

Every purchase you make shall be deemed performed in Jersey. Jersey law shall govern every aspect of contractual agreement concerning purchases made from the Site.

If you want all the rights associated with buying something in this country, buy things in this country.

Why is it surprising to you that off shore websites selling discounted goods don't offer the same back up as a local shop???

It's surprising to me, as I was also unaware that Jersey isn't covered by the UK Sale of Goods Act. It wouldn't be immediately obvious to most people that Play.com are Jersey-based, and that Jersey doesn't have the same laws as the mainland UK.

I'm very grateful to the OP for this helpful warning.

Your trolling is getting ever more desperate, Dave. You're simply becoming a downright nuisance on MSE, and after your offensive comment on another thread earlier today about handicapped children (which I note you have now edited), I hope you are banned in the near future.

Shame you've managed both then, as well as living in Plaistow! Never mind....you might grow out of it.

Thanks DocN for pointing that out. I was half expecting the answer to be because they do not have a UK registered address, they can't be taken to a UK court but it would seem you agree to be bound by their local law at time of your purchase.

I presume this warning should apply to others such as Tesco Jersey as well then?
