nokia 6288 on 3 network

Hi
I have a nokia 6288 on the 3 network, but I am very disappointed with the battery life. Is there any way it can be improved?
I have switched on sleep mode and all the power saving options I can find.
It has been suggested that as the phone is connected to the 3G network (internet) all the time, that is what is draining the battery. is that correct?
If correct would it be possible to disable the internet facilty and use the phone just to make and receive calls and text. if so HOW?

Your battery is !!!!!!ed then, i have a 6288 from 3, and from full charge it lasts me nearly 3 days with about 3hrs talk and about 90 texts, with the odd camera, internet, game use about another 45 min there.

As I am currently looking at moving to 3, how do you find network coverage? Have you had any problems?

I find the 3 network coverage very good, no problems at all so far(i just chose a rubbish phone) i am paying £15 pcm for 500 anytime/anynetwork minutes, my number ported across from oange on time with no problems at all.I live in herts if that is any help.
