Very Frustrated with Ford

Not sure whether this is better off in the vent forum but I'm hoping someone may be able to help me here.

I have a 2013 Ford Focus which the door seals started to become detached earlier this year. No problem I thought they will be fixed under warranty. Well how wrong can you be, apparently trim items only have a 12 month warranty (should have bought a Toyota I suppose).

Anyway the seals were refixed at service but 12 weeks later are dropping off again. The Ford fix for this is to re affix them with double sided tape which obviously doesn't work so rather than take it back again (and pay for the privilege) I've decided to contact specialist adhesive supplier so that I can fix them myself. The supplier has asked what material the seals are made (so that I get a suitable adhesive) and advised that I contact Ford which is what I have done.

I initially contacted Ford CS who said I need to contact my dealer so have contacted my dealer who have told me to contact Ford UK:( Unbelieveable:mad:

Ford dealership says this is a common problem but Ford won't acknowledge it. I'm hoping someone may have had this issue already and found a fix but if not the rant is now off my chest!

Guess who won't be buying another Ford again (although the car itself is great)

In the grand scheme of things, I'd be quite happy if all that was wrong with my car was a door seal coming loose.

In fact, I had a Fiesta Zetec S and when I test drove it, I pointed out to the salesman that the door seal was loose. When I picked up the car, it was clear they had stuck it down with something and it was the same seal. This didn't bother me in the slightest, never had another issue with it after that.

I'd certainly not write off Ford just because of a seal issue, especially if you are happy with the rest of the car!

They've probably been replaced in the past, once they've been replaced, they never fit properly again afterwards.

Typically and it's not limited to Ford, they often get ripped apart by those stupid individuals that think high heels are appropriate for driving a 1 tonne mass of rolling metal death machine.
Trim is usually on a short warranty, because of customer abuse, you'd be shocked at how many people treat their car as a mobile living room OR as a rubbish bin.

Also, nothing wrong with proper double sided tape, you'd be surprised how much of your car is built with it. I've got some proper industrial grade stuff and it'd happy hang a person from the ceiling by the soles of their shoes.

Just as a precaution, you should get down to ground level and check for corrosion or damage on the under side of the door, there could be something "grabbing" the seal.

If it's loose at one point, it might help to push the corners in to take up the slack.

  • Seals on one of my old cars kept dropping off. I fixed them in place with black non-setting guttering and roofing sealant, which also helped cure a persistent water leak into the luggage compartment.

Yeah, it's messy if they have to come off, but white spirit removes the sealant very easily.

So you are going to never buy a Ford due to a minor issue with a door seal?

    Wow.

Could be worse you could have bought a VAG diesel with made up emissions, or a VAG 2.0 diesel with an under engineered oil pump or a Merc that rusted out underneath before it was three years old.

Personally I would just glue it back myself

And what makes you think Toyota would be any different when it comes to trim items?

Maybe they think trim is included in the 5 year mechanical warranty, which I doubt it is given its excluded from their extended warranty. Loads of similar problems with Toyota door rubbers coming off if you google.

My wife has had 2 Yaris now and trim is covered under the warranty.

I have also had issues with my front alloys (car was purchased new) which Ford also refused to cover under warranty.

I wouldn't not buy a car again because of a trim issue, my issue is the standard of customer service which is appalling, therefore my business will be going elsewhere in future

This wasn't in the original post, what was wrong with them?

You asked what material the seal was made out of. My guess is this isn't common knowledge to either the salesman or the person you called, both of who have probably never been asked that before.

Just stick the seal down with double sided tape and chill out a little bit. If this sort of customer service angers you, what happens when you ring Sky?

The car was bought new and the wheels suffered pitting on the inner edges due to brake dust contamination despite being kept spotlessly clean with nothing more than soap and water. When I tried to claim on the warranty the car was 14 months old with 8,000 miles on the clock.

Looking at the Ford Facebook page my complaints about customer service standards is mirrored many times.
