Shower water temperature lower and gets cold quickly

we had a triton mixer shower fitted 10 months ago and a new shower pump (fitted under the bath) and until this week the temperature, even when turned down to 'lowest' has always been hot. We've also been able to shower one after another and it only really got cold right at the end of the 2nd shower. Now it gets cold 3/4 way into the first shower.

Had some work done recently as some of you know but only on the heating system, had a new CH pump fitted (old one died due to sludge build up) and few days ago had a powerflush carried out. I'm assuming neither of these would effect shower water temp? We have an open system, with 2 water tanks in the loft (if that helps diagnose)

And if not, what should I be looking at please?

Is it an electric shower or does it take it's water from the hot water cylinder (assuming you have one)? If you have a hot water cylinder, how is it heated? If it is by a boiler, is it switched on for a long enough time. As it is getting colder, the cold water to your shower is colder and you need more hot to make the same temperature that you did in summer.

    Thanks Le-Kirk
It is powered (it has a kind of trip switch outside the bathroom on the wall, like a circuit breaker?) but it takes the water from the cylinder in the airing cupboard, i guess its heated in the cylinder? (forgive me as only ever lived in a place with a combi boiler before now) Theres a seperate 'Water Heater' switch in the airing cupboard, i guess like a manual override? We've never sued the switch since we moved in a year ago.
I've only ever known the boiler to fire up when the central heating comes on, you hear the old boiler fire up.

We had the 3 way valve replaced, the shower itself and shower pump replaced in the last 9 or 10 months.
  • When the water turns cold, does the water from a sink hot tap still give you hot water?

The weather has got a lot colder so the cold water from the tank in the loft that mixes with the hot will be colder. You'll need to use more hot water in the winter to get the same temp shower as you do in milder months.

If you've never used the switch in the airing cupboard we can eliminate that from our deliberations, which leaves the boiler. You say it fires up only when the central heating comes on so what is heating your hot water? On your controller, what options do you have? You should have H (or CH), W & Both, where H (CH) = (Central) Heating and W = Water. You say you have had the 3-way valve replaced so that indicates you have the ability to switch between heating and hot water. Check the times that you have set for the heating and water and it may be that you just haven't allowed enough time for the water to heat up before using it or leave it on long enough. Check out your timings and post them.

As has been said in previous posts it has got significantly colder recently and incoming or stored water is colder. Also it is worth checking that the immersion heater works. If you can see your electricity meter and it is the type where you can see the usage, check the usage then switch on the immersion and the usage should increase which proves it is working.

Never even thought of that, so simple but makes so much sense. Only even had a combi boiler before so this is all new to me :o

you might also want to see if your timer has been affected by the clocks going back, meaning the time the immersion has to heat up before your showers may have been reduced, giving you less stored hot water.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

Just tried out the immersion heater, as soon as it was switched on in the airing cupboard, the old style electricity meter speeded up (there a rotating type disc, similar to horizontal circular saw?) that span faster as soon as it was switched.
