Curly vs straight hair on women

There seems to be a great tendency in society, well at least in my perception of UK society, that it is preferable for women to have straightened hair.
I first started straightening my hair in 2003 and it's a standard part of my morning routine. My hair is 80% straight naturally but due to frizz and not being in the greatest of conditions thanks to lots of hairdrying/straightening/colouring it doesn't look 'done' till I've used my straighteners on it.
However, I feel I look prettier and/or more feminine with curly hair. Curling is not as quick as straightening so I've not time for it often but I think it gives the hair a bit more life rather than just kind of hanging there to some extent.
So I was just wondering whether other people preferred themselves with curly or straight hair if female or of course what their preference was on females if male.
I appreciate it's kind of an each to their own kind of thing but I just feel that straightening has become the expected standard for girls with medium/long hair.

I have never understood the whole straightening thing. My hair is naturally curly and I always wished I had long straight hair but accept that isn't what I have.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Mrs G has curly hair. Other women often ask her if it is natural, which it is.
I must admit, it was the first thing that piqued my interest in her.0 -
I have straight hair but it goes slightly wavy if left to dry without brushing it. My Sister in Law has hair just like mine but she straightens it and now she has to every day otherwise it is just frizzy because she has damaged it with using straighteners so much.
I think long curly hair is nice and I always wanted curly hair but if I had a favourite it would be long wavy hair.*3.36 kWp solar panel system,10 x Ultima & 4 x Panasonic solar panels, Solaredge Inverter *Biomass boiler stove for cooking, hot water & heating *2000ltr Rainwater harvesting system for loo flushing *Hybrid Toyota Auris car *RIP Pingu, Hoppy, Ginger & Biscuit *Hens & Ducks* chat thread. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=52822090 -
I have straight hair with a slight kink. I no longer use straighteners but a hot air styler from Remington. I would like kate middleton's volume blow dry.Britain is great but Manchester is greater0

i have naturally wavy hair, at the moment (with the blustery weather etc we have) i don't straighten it, i have layers cut in to accentuate the wave. I have in the past been a slave to straighteners, and have been told off by my hairdresser for frying my fringe with straightener-overuse.
my daughter has beautiful long curly hair. Its definitely prone to frizz more than mine is, when she leaves it curly and has de-frizzed it she always gets comments on it. When she straightens it (it takes her a good couple of hours to do) she looks older (she's 14) but she also looks just like all her friends. The curls make her stand out more in the crowd.0 -
I think curly hair is stunning. Mine is frizzy so I straighten it though.0

I have curly hair and it suits me.
I do think that poker straight hair looks more polished, which is why I think many celebrities straighten their hair. Curly hair can look a bit wild, even when styled nicely. The one thing I don't like about having curly hair is that you are more limited in how you can cut it whereas people with straight hair have much more choice.0 -
I have poker straight hair and wish I had wavy/curly hair. I suppose we always want what we can't have!No more goo hoarding!

Likewise!
I don't understand this whole straightening business, having spent too much of my youth sleeping in rollers.
The hippy sixties were bliss.
Now I find that the grey hair seems to have more body and I can get, and keep some height on it.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

I used to have poker straight hair but after my last pregnancy (15 years ago) it started to have a bit of a kink to it. I usually straighten it (unless I'm being lazy when I'll just tie it up) but for special occasions I'll curl it (takes forever) as it makes me feel 'prettier'.xxx Nikki xxx0
