Expired card

I mistakenly put an expired credit card in a ATM. I entered my pin and requested 20 pounds. A message appeared on the screen saying my transaction could not be completed at this time and my card was retained.

On this months credit card bill there is a debit for the transaction even though i recieved no money from the machine!
Of course I’m no expert.

  • Speak to the credit card Company then.
  • The ATM was in another bank from the one that issued the card. Should i speak to them too?

I'd start with the company of whom you are a customer - i.e. your credit card company.

Is it described as a £20 cash advance and associated fee, or a different amount as a charge for a declined transaction?

Either way, you need to discuss it with them. If the cash machine has wrongly reported it as cash being paid out they'll have to discuss it with the other bank.
  • Cash advance and associated fee plus interest. The ATM machine has declined my transaction and then charged my credit card provder money which i never received.

    Speak to the card issuer.
  • Ive just checked my bank statement that shows that no transaction took place.
Bit worrying really. Ill go through the banks complaint procedure.

I don't understand what you mean.
Do you mean credit card statement? If so, how is this different to what was showing that you owed it?

There's no need to complain yet. Just call them and explain the problem, they may well be able to rectify the mistake immediately.

So the 'error' has been spotted by the bank and reversed??
