O/S Daily Wednesday 18th November 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.
Now getting light, wind seems to have calmed down, damp underfoot. The wind was awful here, and we weren’t in the worst part of the country – hope everyone survived ok and not too much damage.
Dinner last night was fish, chips, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had fish, jacket potato and veg. I remembered to get the pork chops out to defrost so we’ll be having those tonight with some mash, LO’s for the roast, and I’ll do some extra bits where needed.
Work wasn’t too busy yesterday although we did get busier in the afternoon as we didn’t have as many staff. I’m only working until lunchtime today, then on days’ off and I have a week’s annual leave next week – I need to get xmas sorted – prezzies bought, wrapped etc, xmas cake and puddings made. I also want to use some of the time to get the house cleaned up, after this weekend we’ll be getting rid of a load of items DH used as part of his caravan job, that is passed on to the guy that take’s over from him on Sunday – so we’ll be taking it all with us to hand over, I did tell them they would need to have an empty boot of their car! We have so much paperwork too, most of that will need shredding although a lot I use the blank side as scrap paper to scribble notes down when I’m on the pc or telephone, or take it into work for the same use, but then shred it.
On the way home from work this lunchtime I need to stop off at the SM to buy the wine, cheese and crackers etc to take with us on Friday – I have loads to do and am cross with myself that I’ve left it all until the last minute. Normally I would have all day tomorrow to get organised, but we’re attending a funeral tomorrow and it’s a 2 hour journey each way, and we’re picking up friends who want to attend too, the funeral isn’t until 2pm, so I’ve managed to book us a table for lunch at a local restaurant only 3 miles away from the Crem, but obviously we’re not going to get back until evening.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Wet and windy again, I may need to find some wellies! Woke up early so there's a load of towels in the WM, they will go on the airer.
Saw the Lady In The Van last night, it was really good and quite thought provoking. That's the first time I've been to the cinema for over a year and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it, must go again sometime.
DD is meeting me at work and we are going to a shopping centre (not my thing but she has a voucher to spend), probably get something to eat there so no cooking tonight. I will collect a parcel I missed yesterday, the slip they put through the door has no details on it, no boxes ticked but I've said online that I am going to collect it, just hope it isn't at a neighbours!
I'll get a school dinner today, I do like their breaded chicken and some of the parents are coming in so that makes it better!
Stay safe and take care. XX0 -
Morning, it has blown a gale and now seems a bit calmer. I have washing just finished but the weather report is for heavy rain and it is not yet light so can't guess at the reality.
On a course today, then a quick task and home. Last night was bubble and squeak from leftover Sunday veg, some sausages with beans for the chaps but I wasn't very hungry and shared most of mine out. The mister will cook this evening.
Time for toast I think.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning all,
Well things seem quieter this morning. The wind was horrendous again last night, I really don't like it. It was blowing down the chimney and sounded really scarey. Anyway today is another day
The plumber caame yesterday afternoon so the taps are now sorted in the bathroom. himself will put the bath panel back on today. I gave it 3 coats of paint yesterday and it looks good.
We are popping into town this morning to go to the bank so will drop DGD1 off at work first. Will also go into £land for some batteries.
Have just heard Jonah Lomu has died, how sad and so young. What a brave young man living with kidney disease for so many years.
So much sadness in the world at the moment.
Lyn I hope you were Ok on your own last night and that Barney has moved from the south coast now.
TA I hope everything went well yesterday andDH was able to have his injection.
Have a good day all and stay safe

Morning all. It's the calm before the storm here! We had a wet and blustery day yesterday, then a peaceful night but I hear it's due to return later. I am sick to death of wind and rain!
The hospital visit went ok yesterday, despite the hour long wait to go in! We were out just in time for lunch and ate in the hospital restaurant. It's not bad food and quite reasonable. Then, naughty naughty, finished off with a hug slice of carrot cake!
The craft fayre last night turned out even more expensive than I expected. Not a lot of craft stalls but quite a lot of small business people. Nonetheless, there were some lovely things. I was quite restrained till we got to the Natural Aloe stuff! I ended up ordering some serum which felt wonderful on the skin and if it doesn't make me look 21 again I'll want my money back!!
I'm having a day out today with my friend. Skipton as usual! We're expecting a much reduced market in view of the weather, but still some nice shops to browse. And, of course, our lunch and shared bottle of wine is the highlight of the day! We'll have a good old natter and catch up on what's been happening in our lives.
I've got some beef casserole defrosting for Mr TA's lunch which just needs a blast in the mw. We have the 3 DGDs for late tea and sleepover so there's a big pot of Bolognese on the go in the sc for when they appear.
Have a good day all (((((HUGS)))))) to those wanting/needing them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

The wind was awful last night. I opened the door to let Scampi out and it slammed back while I was still holding it. I tried again and had to wrestle with it, then a load of leaves blew into the kitchen. Then I couldn't close the door because the wisteria had come loose and was hanging in the doorway
The wind started howling and Scampi howled back. I really hope it's calmer today

I have a short list of things to do but my day will probably go wonky so I'm trying to tell myself not to get cross if I don't achieve anything! The blokes had more than a good time at the rugby last night, I'd be very surprised if even one of them doesn't have a hangover this morning. Obviously they'll need to recover before driving back to Cornwall so I'm expecting them to be hanging around for most of the day – getting in my way, winding the dog up, eating all my food..............
Just as well mr tru has the day off. I might leave them to it – take Scampi out for a while then hide in the bedroom with a book, my laptop, a DVD and some chocolate

Sistercas hope all goes well with dd's graduation xxx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all,
Clear and colder here, the wind has died down and looks like the roof has survived. Just been out with the girls and apart from loads of little branches there doesn't seem to have been much damage to the trees.
Off to the cinema this afternoon, taking my DM to see the Lady in the Van, very much looking forward to it and having a good catch up with Mum, think she needs a few little errands in her nearest town so hope the wind & rain stays away as she is bit unsteady oh her feet.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Tru - were they at Kingsholme as I read they had to be evacuated due to the wind?0

Good Morning everyone, wild and windy last night but it's blown through now and is a dry and breezy morning, no damage anywhere that I can see to us or anyone who lives around us, thank goodness for that! He Who Knows is coming home this morning and it's quiz night tonight with my brother and SIL so that's something to look forward to.
Not much planned for today other than a Cookie walk this afternoon possibly with He Who Knows too which would be nice. We've something nice for one day next week though, a new cinema complex is opening at a shopping village not too far away, up until now we've had to drive to either Southampton or Portsmouth to see a film and I can't remember the last time we went to the cinema together, I usually go with my sister in law, but next week we're going to see Spectre and have a meal out afterwards as there are some nice eateries in the village, looking forward to it lots.
Hope all of you are also damageless and safe after the blow last night, look after yourselves and have a nice day, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning everyone.
Very wet and windy here again- wild indeed. The roads were saturated and flooded around here yesterday so I dread to think how they are today.
Yesterday I went to bed at about 4.30 as I felt ropey. Woke up half an hour ago with a thick throat and one streaming nostril! First cold in over a year. It'll have been all those strange germs wafting around exCel. :rotfl: I've cancelled my two hour teaching session and will probably stay in / close to my bed today.
At least it'll be a NSD. I've got plenty of books to read, a stock of tissues and enough in the fridge to get by.
Hope everyone keeps warm today and has a good Wednesday.0
