£400 for a fortnight is a pretty good price.

I'm assuming you are booking a standard or midsize car, as its for a family.

Not sure as to what you have been doing.

This on a cursory search direct with Hertz:

    I chose 1st to the 15th..

    Standard price:

Don't forget to add probably £100 for an additional driver to those Hertz prices. Comparing quotes is not straightforward, I wonder why.

    OP, that looks fine.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

What on earth...? The OP's quote doesn't include an Additional Driver, so why should mine?
    It looks straightforward to me.

Also 8% on Quidco as compared to 6% with eBookers.

I have no doubt that direct is cheaper..

Sorry Nifty, you're right, I misread.

In that case what I would do is get loads of quotes from the big companies but not book anything. Then, as if by magic, special offers will appear when you're browsing the web offering discounts of about 10% or more. There's no rush but if you find a good deal book it, you can always cancel if you find a better deal. The better companies let you cancel with a full refund up to a week before you go.

You might not have noticed that my quote already has a 25% discount. So a 10% discount wouldn't put the OP in a better position.

try Alamo UK (not Alamo Brits) as you can get a free additional driver

first google the internet for Alamo discount codes as there are 10% ones available

I booked through them this year and got the best price.

with Alamo you can walk down the rows of cars in your group and select the one you fancy
