They came here hour late and the moment they did i heard them talking about they are not going to the other job because this one will take long but then the manager called them and said they had to. So they basically rushed mine.
this is my problem.
1, the vinyl in my kitchen is not even glued down or has silcone around it to hold it down
2, glue has been sprayed on my brand new washing machine and fridge that wont come off
3, glue has been sprayed on my skirting boards and scotia making them look dirty and wont come off
4, in the hallway i can see the old flooring as it was cut badly
5, they didnt bother to lay underlay in my cupboard so the floor is slighty uneven and yes there was enough underlay
6, the vinyl looks rubbish, blatently rushed, has cut marks and i was told they will remove the scotia and they didnt, there are gaps it just looks awful honestly. It looks like i laid it.
7,, one of the guys didnt use my carpet/underlay bar and STOLE this as i didnt say he could have it and i could of taken it back to wilkos
i also was meant to pay only £133 and i gave him £140 he then said he has no change and carpet fitters dont keep change and said thanks for the change.
i told him i want my change and he started making jokes and made me feel uncomfortable like i was a tramp asking for change?

im really fuming here.
i actually want a refund of the WHOLE order plus them to pay for my fridge and washer.
they also sprayed glue on my bedroom carpet which has made it matted, it is obvious as well.

where do i stand?
i want to cry im so angry

  • Initially you need to calm down.

What work was done exactly? Seems a lot of work for two people to do for only £133.

Did you know the price was £133 in advance? If so, I'd have ensured I had the right change. I wouldn't expect a carpet fitter to have change.

The glue issue - they're not going to replace your fridge and washer. I would ring and calmly explain the issue and ask if they will be proving a cleaner to remove this glue.
  • i did know the price but i thought they did have change and he shouldnt of made me feel like that.
i wasnt given what i was promised. the floor in the kitchen looks disgusting i cannot explain it but there are gaps and rips, thats all i cant say
the scotia wasnt removed and as i said the glue is everywhere
plus the glue on my bedroom carpet which is ruined
  • I suggest you call the management and invite them round to look at the work and issues you describe.

Take photos of the damage and then contact the Manager at the store where the order was placed. Failing that, try their central customer service department. If you don't get anywhere, try their corporate office as they may have someone there who has more than two brain cells to rub together:

    01708 802000

I'd also contact a local carpet fitting firm (one that has been around a while and is owned by someone who isn't a crook) and ask whether they have any advice as they will no doubt be aware of Carpet Right's reputation. They'll be happy to give you some advice over the phone.

We had carpets fitted and I found ex-Carpet Right staff at a couple of established family run firms who had interesting stories about how the company is run.

For example, they said that customers were charged for the top of the range underlay but the stuff provided to the fitters was the lowest quality, because the customer would be unlikely to notice.

They came here hour late You are not supposed to be given times as a job like floor laying is impossiable to predict how long it would take. and the moment they did i heard them talking about they are not going to the other job because this one will take long but then the manager called them and said they had to. So they basically rushed mine.
    this is my problem.
1, the vinyl in my kitchen is not even glued down or has silcone around it to hold it down Silcone isnt used to "hold it down". In fact silcone shoulnt be used at all in a domestic vinyl fit (generally when it is used its used to hide mistakes). Are you sure its not glued down? if its not glued down where did the glue on your washing machine come from?
2, glue has been sprayed on my brand new washing machine and fridge that wont come off Assuming were talking about vinyl spray adheavise then it dose come off, you need a strong cloth or rag (not one of those week blue J-cloth) walm water and a litte washing up liquid - Though not your job to sourt out (its for the fitter to put right) sometimes its quicker and easier to do it yourself. also the longer its there the harder it is to remove.
3, glue has been sprayed on my skirting boards and scotia making them look dirty and wont come off See above
4, in the hallway i can see the old flooring as it was cut badly That sounds bad, any chance of a picture (preferably a long shot and a close up?
5, they didnt bother to lay underlay in my cupboard so the floor is slighty uneven and yes there was enough underlay That is quite normal, most cupboards are too small to streach a carpet and so gripper cant be used (and without gripper underlay cant be used), Though i would usually point this out to a custmer before hand.
6, the vinyl looks rubbish, blatently rushed, has cut marks and i was told they will remove the scotia and they didnt , there are gaps it just looks awful honestly. It looks like i laid it. Removing the existing flooring (including the scotia) isnt their job (unless you paid extra for the service) Though most fitters will remove it anyway as its easier/quicker to fit against the skirts then beading. As for the poor fitting any chances of some photos once again long shots and closeups?
7,, one of the guys didnt use my carpet/underlay bar and STOLE this as i didnt say he could have it and i could of taken it back to wilkos Did he put a different bar down (thus "swapping" your wilko one for his) or did he put no bar/use the existing one? The "high street" doorbars tend to be very low quality so i doubt (though not impossiable) he stole it. Even when i swap my bars for custmer ones (when they have brought the wrong thing) wile i will take their bar out of principal i will typically throw them away when i get back to the store due to their low quality.
i also was meant to pay only £133 and i gave him £140 he then said he has no change and carpet fitters dont keep change and said thanks for the change.
i told him i want my change and he started making jokes and made me feel uncomfortable like i was a tramp asking for change? Carpet fitters do tend to carry only minimal amounts of change with them If we have to use when change we have on the first job then we wont have any left by the time we get to the second job. Alough i will always try and see if i can find some change but at the end of the day if i dont have any i dont have any. If a custmer is insistant on wanting change and i dont have any i will usually agree to drop it through the letterbox next time im passing (if its near my regular route) or leave it at the store for them to collect.

    im really fuming here.
i actually want a refund of the WHOLE order plus them to pay for my fridge and washer.
they also sprayed glue on my bedroom carpet which has made it matted, it is obvious as well.

My answers are in Red alough there clearly some issues there, there is also a few none issues. Have you spoken to the store yet to get them to inspect/put right the issues? Carpetright are usually pretty good at putting right these issues.
  • hi thank you for your reply and eveyrone else,
i have spoken to the store and they are coming by tomorrow to see.
im going to try take the glue off myself using your method thank you for that.
i dont know how to upload the pictures but i actually signed something to say the old flooring will be uplifted and i will pay for it they didnt even do it. This was discussed at point of sale plus the scotia i said i want it removed.
point of sale lady said they couldnt lay the vinyl on top of old vinyl and have to uplift and it defiantly is not stuck down i can lift it up without struggle.
i will see what he says tomorrow

    Ah! Carpetright
All good advice Crabman........ you're quite right, the OP should indeed call their HQ and tell them this story. However, experience has taught me that to expect anyone there to ever call you back with follow up information or a solution of any sort is an expectation destined to be disappointed . Never, in any of my dealings with this company, have I encountered a single individual blessed with the skill-set that enables them to make an out going call.
  • Kimberley, have you had any luck getting this sorted?
