Arcadia store card. PPI claim

My wife had an Arcadia Store card originally taken out at Principles in 1993. As a staff member she was told that she had no option than to purchase PPI. She held this card until August 2004 when the balance was settled and the account closed.

When taking out the agreement the finance company was GE Bank; then the porfolio was taken over by Santander and subsequently I understand that NewDay now has the partnership with Arcadia.

My question is who do we send the claim to recover the enforced PPI?

I would appreciate help/advice that anyone could give.

Not sure who you should complain to but do you still have any records - Statements etc. for the account to prove she paid PPI if the lender has not kept records. Also who was it who told her she had to have PPI, her manager, a colleague, the card provider?

You have to complain to the shop (who will reject it as pre-2005 when they were not regulated), after that, Santander (possible they will bounce you to New Day) though as it was both bought and closed pre-2005 chances are both will reject it. After that try GE

New Day bought it from Santander in May 2013

The problem is miss-SALE i.e. who sold it you, the people who sold it you (the store) were not regulated back then so there is no complaint

If you have no records of you own I wouldn't waste time on this one as you wouldn't be able to prove you paid anything and the banks will have long ago destroyed the records

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

My husband had a Burtons store card until 1998 and Santander PPI team were able to locate the account details. So I would give NewDay and Santander a call to see if they can find the account number plus any other details like an insurance policy. You could then submit a complaint to NewDay who will probably reject it, then take it to the underwriter Genworth who may accept liability for the sale.
  • I tried Ikano first of all, they took over the principles card from Santander and they dealt with part of my complaint and then I went to Santander for the earlier part. Good luck. I found Ikano very easy to deal with and just rang them up to put the complaint in and got an answer 3 weeks later.
