Of course I don't think I paid 1.86 a day for the rental, I paid £70 when I booked. I have no idea what the extra day rate was or and their reps English suddenly got very poor when I asked.
I've now referred the matter to the agent with whom o booked the car.

Don't think I'm not on your side. But a cursory search for reviews would have given you an idea of what to expect. Now you have to sift through all of the ridiculous add-ons for which you have been billed.
I never book through a third party. You didn't mention that in the first instance. Perhaps they sold you some 'insurance' too.

I actually booked as part of the flight through the airline and it was all quite clear that I paid for car hire plus full insurance and I was happy with that. The paperwork came from their agent, cartrawler. What I wasn't expecting was additional admin deductions despite returning the car full and being told that it was fully refundable.

Recordgo's staff deliberately hid these charges and now refuse to explain them.

And I'm very glad that didn't book direct with recordgo since they have ignored all attempts to contact them whereas cartrawler actually got back to me and agreed that the terms of my booking dont allow for this extra charge. They also agreed that recordgo's behavour reflects badly on themselves so they said they would sort it. I'll let you know the outcome.

As for not reading the reviews, I wasn't aware who the car hire company was until after the booking.

Erm...did you pay for full insurance? Probably not with recordGo. RecordGo full insurance is usually quite expensive. 20€ per day being usual. So that would have added £100 to your total.
    Muddied waters.
