BT T4000 Without A Subcription ?

I've had a BT Youview box for the last couple of years, loved the Youview format, especially the remote recording from the phone app in work etc
Unfortunately my box has broke, I've tried reformatting etc but it doesn't work.
If I bought a BT T4000 via Gumtree etc would it work just as my old BT Youview did without a subscription ? I'm not expecting the UHD content to work etc
