SD or SDHC?

I have:
1. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet (2012 edition)
2. Tesco Hudl tablet (first generation)
3. Motorola E (first generation)
All three of these have a Micro SD memory card slot on them.
The question is must I buy an SD card only or could I buy an SDHC card and use that on all three devices?
I note that some Micro SDHC cards come with an adaptor that effectively makes them SD cards, like this:
http://www.shop.bt.com/products/kingston---flash-memory-card---microsdhc-to-sd-adapter-included
16-gb---class-4---microsdhc-sdc4-16gb-79X4.html?q=16gb%20sd
So maybe that would work in all three devices?

'Micro' is the size.
I think both SD and SDHC can be normal size or micro.
You need a 'micro' card, that for a big volume of memory will be HC.
IMHO, "microSDHC to SD adapter" description in your link is confusing as it changes the size only, not the standard. I am pretty sure that it will work with all your devices.0 -
Thanks Grumbler. All three devices have MicroSD slots. So I wont need any adaptation to standard SD size for sure. I'm just a bit dubious as to whether SDHC would be backward compatible with SD as none of the three devices is stamped SDHC.0

sdhc cards arrived after 2 gig , a basic (computer mounyted) SD card reader will not read cards greater than 2g , a sdHC reader will read cards below 2g or above
an older camers (Nikon d50) only takes sd cards , and will not see or format any card over 2g (sdHC)
your tablets/phone will accept any card upto the Mfg max size , this might be 32g , 64g or above.
conventional SD cards are getting harder to buy new , and as posted above , I use them in the mentioned camers0 -
Look to see what capacity the docs say the devices will take. IIRC SD only goes up to 2GB and anything over that will be SDHC. SDHC has been standard for years now. Not sure about the Motorola but the other two will take SDHC for sure.0

The Motorola is this model. I looked at the label on it and it says its the XT1021 model:

Looking at the spec it seems that the SHDH might ok for it.
External StorageUntil 32GB microSD, microSDHC0 -
The Hudl 1 certainly will. I bought my grandson one and fitted a 32GB micro SDHC. It died the death of many HUDL 1s with a duff power connector - twice as they fixed the first one.0

Ok so one down and two to go!
I could try and find out if anyone I know has an SDHC card and try it in the other two devices I guess.0 -
All three support SDHC, SD non-HC is such an old standard now I don't think they tend to bother badging devices as SDHC. The question is more whether they support the higher capacity SDXC cards and a quick look around suggests they probably do as well although may need to be formatted to the older FAT32 rather than exFAT for some of them.

There IS such a thing as a 4GB SD (not HC) card, but they're very rare and not worth finding. 4GB is the limit of SD. OP - get yourself the biggest MicroSD card you are after and see where it goes from there. Any device that doesn't take it will take something smaller. With prices the way they are (£17 for a 64GB card!) it'll be cheap as chips. No, cheaper!0
