  • I wouldn't buy a house somewhere you don't want to be. What happens if in a years time your wife meets someone and decides to start a life somewhere new?
  • Now that is a good point something I never thought about, couldn't see it happening due to her work and family being around her and also my daughters school tbh.
  • The more I think about it I think my best option is the place about 15 mile away. It's close enough to my daughter and also my family and friends and then there's the issue of maybe not having to bump into my ex or her family and friends all the time. It would be a smaller house but it would be the clean break I need tbh. Rent for the short term then start thinking about buying...

That sounds like a good plan. It means that you can fit in all the clubs kids do and still be a comfortable distance from the in laws, where you (and your ex) can make your own lives.

If you rent you can take your time.

The fact that its smaller means zilch to a child.
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door

If you do decide after a few months that it's too far away you can always move back to where you are now. If you go straight into living in the same place you might always wonder if you should have made the break. 15 miles seems reasonable.
