Retire - LGPS - Work on bithday or not?

I intend to retire under Rule of 85 next year and need to know if I have to work on my birthday or not. I have asked the pension administrator but got an ambiguous reply. I have a couple of pension statements from different years one states my birthday the other the day before.

I don't want to miss out on Rule 85 by one day so if anyone can tell me the definitive answer I would be most grateful.

Go to work on your birthday, that way you
a) make sure you don't miss out and
b) you might get a cake :)

If you are in any doubt at all, wouldn't it be best to work on your birthday just for peace of mind?

It's only one day, after all, and I'm sure they won't mind if you are less productive than usual!

I'm with the Cake Liberation Front. Le Front National des Gateaux probably would agree too.
Free the dunston one next time too.
• Well I wouldn't actually be working as I'm saving holiday up anyway. I just need to know for my official retirement notification what my last working day would be.

I will have plenty of cake on my leaving day!

• Under normal circumstances and retiring at 65 would you work on your 65th birthday or finish the day before?

• you will decide......but surely its not a requirement to retire ON YOUR BIRTHDAY ?
if it were me I'd work it and just finish (retire) at the end of that month!
• I want to retire at the earliest date I can ensuring that I don't loose out on Rule of 85. If I can finish work the day before my birthday then that is a bonus.

• rule of 85 = your age + length of service must equal (or be greater than 85 yrs)

right?
• Yes, that's right. :j That will be on my birthday next year, so do I work on my birthday or can I finish the day before?

Well that's an afternoon taken up asking the question, it's a hard life in local government!
