Well I'm with Virgin and it's coax cable not fibre.

I'm on a 50mbps service so not bad for a Sunday in Epsom, Surrey when the world and his wife is watching cable TV.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0 -

Virgin cable0 -

Virgin Fibre, meant to be a 20mbps service and it normally is closer to that when I do a test
getting a free upgrade to 50mbps in the New Year0 -

ISP BT. In the sticks in Somerset.
Believe it or not this is good. Switched from the PO few months back where 0.5 - 1.0 was normal.0 -

Utterly clueless!

Instead of calling someone clueless perhaps you can correct me then, clearly virgin is fibre and so irrelevant to this topic. Perhaps the last part of my sentence about how cable works is incorrect however.
You reply clearly shows your arrogance.0 -

Our cables now deliver speeds up to 200Mbps. Eye watering.
If broadband could race... we'd win. You see, most other broadband providers use a copper phone line to reach your home, which over long distances drops its speed. But with us, the combination of DOCSIS 3 tech and our unique insulated cable, with a thicker copper core, retains our ultrafast signal so you can get more stuff done online faster. #Winning.0 -

VM is still fibre broadband, not coax cable broadband. So useless for OPs research.Futuristic wrote: »Instead of calling someone clueless perhaps you can correct me then, clearly virgin is fibre and so irrelevant to this topic. Fibre is fibre-optic cable, now frequently used to provide a signal to the local node or even local street cabinet.
Fibre-optic to the home, known as FTTH (home) or FTTP (property) is still in it's infancy, available to a very few at the moment and is very expensive.
The typical Virgin installation is Coax Cable to the property. It is not fibre-optic.
As to being 'arrogant' I simply don't like being called out by someone who clearly doesn't know what they are talking about.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0
