Best deal for FIBRE broadband?

For various reasons I need high-speed internet access, and so rely on optical fibre from Virgin. Now that their price is rising I would like to move, but the tools only tell me about cheap broadband rather than about good deals on fibre. Could anyone please make any suggestions, either on deals or on tools to search for them?

Thank you.

Virgin are not so bad IME - you get the speed they say. You just have to threaten to leave because you can get a cheaper deal with BT Infinity (or similar). Once you're passed through to their "retentions" people, you should get a reasonable offer.
This very site will give you details of some deals available:

Look at Sky and BT. You can get fibre upto 38Mb for about £10/month + line rental + activation fee

You can get Virgin 50MB for less (soon 70mb) as people are getting the package for BB+line rental for <£20/mo

Will need to go through retention and perhaps request cancellation and wait for call back.

My Virgin 50Mbps has already been upgraded to 70. Didn't really need the extra download speed, but it is nice to see the upload speed go up to 5Mbps. Get both speeds on a speed test too. :)

All depends which providers offer FTTC on your street cab. Start with an exchange search on samknows.com. Sky, TT and |Plusnet wil be the likely contenders.
All the comp sites will offer you deals on FTTC as well as standard ADSL.

What makes you think you won't have to go through the same process with another provider after a year?

Sticking to same provider without having to hassle with new phone lines and engineers from Openreach which Sky etc have no control over is worth the phone calls.

yes, fair point. It is certainly worth a phone call.

And yes they all put up their prices. I just get more annoyed with VM!

Its just another phone call, it's not like other providers aren't putting prices up as Sky recently increased line rental just last month.

If you call retentions, you'll get the increase taken off. They know most people won't bother.
