Put it in writing, do not trust them with email.
Unless they answer the email to confirm you have cancelled the instruction.
You did ask about the fee?.

    Hi
Awww really ? Don't you think an email is ok? I have a free evening so I will do the letter tonight and send in the morning. I just said I wanted to terminate my agreement etc etc. I was very polite and I never mentioned a fee at all. I thought probably best not to til they mentioned it? I will write exactly the same on the letter as I put in the email. They did send me an acknowledgement......but nothing else as yet but it said I can expect a reply within three days however I will send out a letter tomorrow . Thanks for your advice.

They can always claim they didn't get the email or it was lost in the spam filter or there was an IT issue etc. If you follow up in writing with free proof of postage from the PO then sent first class, 2 days later it is deemed received so they can't say they didn't know.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • An e-mail is fine - particularly if you cc it to consumer@claimsregulation.gov.uk
