A selection of things to do with broken umbrellas - Personally I love the pug coat.
After yesterday's awful weather, I was waiting for the bus home & saw a broken umbrella stuffed in a bin.
It was a pale colour (couldn't tell for sure in the dark) with different sized spots on.
I was very tempted to take it but had quite a lot of bags with me.
Thanks to horsechestnut for the original idea. :T0 -
I acquired a mould and deckle for paper making and took it to work. I am a grade three teacher and care for 27 challenging children. I thought recycling all the rubbish we seem to acquire in our room to make brand new, textured, recycled paper would be fun for them. They can often be hard to motivate and I thought this could cover many curriculum areas, well, they loved it. My hope is that not only did they create a new piece of individualised paper, but it made them think a little harder about reusing their own waste and rubbish. All my art lessons tend to be in the reuse arena.

I've done some work with 'challenging' kids before now, and it had a focus on sustainability and responsible behaviour.
One of the things we did was ask them to bring in a piece of clean rubbish from home (or wash it once they got in), and turned it into to something useful.
Umbrellas and plastic bags became parachutes and kites, bottles became bird feeders, mini greenhouses, and rain gauges, Pringles tubes became kaleidoscopes, and we made a selection of rubbish pictures and wind chimes.
Managed to use it all over the course of the week. That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Thank you for your lovely comment sistercas
Please stay with this thread and next year I will help you with your tomatoes. We need to know where you are going wrong.
Maybe you could start afresh next year by growing 3 tomato plants in pots and giving them names. I did that in my very first year. I called them Tom, !!!! and Harry. Giving them names makes you more attached to them and makes you care for them :rotfl:. Seriously please have another try next year and I will certainly help you along with it. You will succeed and before you know it you will have that many tomatoes you will be making your own Tomato Ketchup. We have a great recipe for that and have just made our own. We had egg and chips for our supper last night. Eggs from our hens, homemade chips from 2 large potatoes 40p, homemade bread 40p and a big squirt of homemade ketchup. Total cost for supper for 2 of us was 80p. It was cooked on our stove too so no gas or electric used to cook it or bake the bread. We love living frugally.

When I was growing up living in Battersea, there was an umberella maker/repair shop along the northcote road
You never binned brollies, you took them in and got them mended
He used to do a huge selection of handles. One year we were bought brollies for Christmas,I got Donald Duck and my sister got Minny Mouse
He also repaired watches and clocks and his shop was opposite a proper shoe repairers who could repair anything made from leather. Handbags, belts, shoes and jackets all got taken in for repair0 -
Bad news I have splashed bleach on a navy "Joules" sweatshirt. I am not willing to trash the sweatshirt as I like it far too much so I am going to try washing it then covering up the splash mark with a fabric marker pen.0
