Airlines that fly London to Melbourne similar to VA Premium Economy

I never noticed any difference between the upper and lower deck in terms of noise.
Definitely quieter upstairs on a 747-400. I've also flown upstairs on the A380.. Whilst I was given a tour of the aircraft in-flight, i can't say that I paid any attention to the noise levels at that time.0 -
If you haven't already, check out Business on China Eastern. Actually came up cheaper than a lot of PE seats in a few searches I've done, and it's certainly a good product. Not amazing by business standards, but certainly a solid good.0

I booked this deal for September to Sydney, still under £2000 then which is a stonking price if you ask me.
I'm a dangerous person with a credit card when I see these flight deals!travelover0 -

Still showing at under £1600 with CheapOair/Dukes Travel for Nov-Feb inclusive. As to whether I would book with them....credit card only and would take screenshots of each page.. So that I could more easily reclaim my funds, in the case of them not supplying the ticket as booked.
Though they do appear to offer a Book with confidence: We offer a 4 hour Full Refund Guarantee on that ticket. Via telephone only.
I would take a screenshot of that too
Though once booked and confirmed, it's Business Class proper all the way. Top airlines. Fully flat beds. Also time for a bit of shopping in Hong Kong outbound. Thinking about booking just for the sake of it.
Qatar - What to expect
Cathay Pacific - What to expect0 -
Yeah but it is September I have booked for, and direct with CX so no problems there.
Like you I tend to book just for the sake of it, but this time I have an excuse as my daughter lives in Sydney.
I nearly booked Jan/Feb but I was a bit worried about getting to Oslo if the weather is bad ( live in NE Scotland ) so decided to play safe.travelover0 -

Suitably embarrassed.
I always book direct, but on this occasion I neglected to check. So forget about CheapOair and book direct with Cathay.
Good excuse.
I don't have one. If I went, I'd have to go on my own as we have already used up, in planning, most of the other's holiday allocation. So can't justify east coast, especially when we had an such excellent time on the west coast last week.0 -
just wanted to say thanks again for all your advice. Through a series of texts received earlier today, it appears that they had an unexpected gate upgrade from PE to business on Cathay Pacific. We're not sure what would have put them in line for it, they have never flown with the airline before and don't have any frequent flyer accounts with any airlines that we know of.
All we can think is they did call after booking as one leg they could not arrange seats together, and with my MIL a nervous flyer, they really preferred to be sat together. The phone agent sorted things out so they were across an aisle from each other. They also called last Friday to clarify cancellation notice as a family member was having a critical medical appointment on Monday and they wanted to know if they had the option to cancel, worst case, after that.
Maybe one of those calls left something on the record to suggest that it would be nice to upgrade them, if possible?
Or it was just utter dumb luck.
It does sound like, at first, they declined as they wanted to be seated together and not in seats D & G...but presumably that was clarified for them, that those seats were together.
Anyway, rambling...thanks very much again for all the advice and my husband and I have filed the other suggestions away for our use in the future.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Thanks good to hear they are ok, btw Cathay Pacific will be using new A350 aircraft with new PE on their flights from LGW starting in Sept http://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_VN/about-us/press-room/press-release/2015/Cathay-Pacific-new-Gatwick-service-for-London-travel.htmlPosts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0
