I was forwarded an email today which had obviously originated in the U.S. and been sent to probably millions of people stating that Microsoft/NTL/AOL in an effort to ensure Internet Explorer is widely used are doing a beta test (whatever that may be) for the next couple of weeks and will pay $243 for every person you forward it on to and then a further $242 for every person they forward it on to.
There were the usual testimonials - one from an attorney - saying that within a couple of weeks Microsoft will make contact for name and address details and forward the cheque!! Someone says they got a cheque for $24,800!
Sounds far too good to be true - I would think that even the billions of dollars Bill Gates is worth would run out very quickly!
I deleted it - has anybody else received this rubbish?

Sounds like a load of tosh. Beta testing is when an unfinished product is released to a group of end users to test in a live environment. Usually, those taking part in beta testing get the product at a reduced rate for their trouble. The scope of the trial is discussed in advance together with reporting mechanisms for passing on information about bugs found or improvements recommended. It wouldn't be done like a chain letter.Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)

If he does I'll give you $24,000 myself.I don't see why MS would pay anyone to beta test when people will beta test for free. People may not like Microsoft but I don't think anyone can argue they are financial idiots.
