How you work out the avios value? I never really looked into it. So you can get £100 voucher with 20000 amex points or 20000 avios points.

It's very personal. However, nearly everybody expert over on HFP agrees that 1 Avios = 1p is a fair overall valuation. You can buy them for that on promotion sometimes (usually they cost a bit more) - but more to the point you can use them to get 1p of value from flights and other things.

In other words (just 1 example) you can buy a BA ticket on the cash + Avios deal and reduce the cash side by using avios, sometimes this is as low as 0.65p/ Avios, though.

I generally buy the 'free' flights + £17.50 fee, these are called Reward Flight Saver flight.

I can fly to my European destination for 6500 Avios off peak + £17.50 fee - when the BA ticket is about £90 if you are quick to buy (variable pricing), so clearly I am getting a bit more than 1p/ Avios.

Same ticket can still be 6500 Avios + £17.50 fees even when the cash price has crept to (say) £130, because BA have committed to offer 2 business class & 4 economy tickets on every plane. In this case, you'd get 1.73p/ Avios of value.

However, the fun part is that lots of us get them nearly for free at times - or even at a profit.

Thanks to Elite tricks I learned & tips from HFP I am quite good at it, eg I should get 2 x 30K Tesco points again this quarter. Which converts to 72000 Avios x 2. Average cost probably 0.5p/ Avios.

Best I found is 10-15% off @ Collect+ which is at least reliable & tracked. Depends on your parcel weight. Post Office £2.90 small parcel is very competitive or £3.90 tracked.

There were some cheap deals on HUKD with Yodel and another one a week or so ago but I choose not to use them because service is 'variable'.

Thanks Harry. Northern Geezer linked me to parcels 2 go - Free £5 :)

I saw that, nice 1. I guess it's a 1-off, though. I need to send 100 parcels a month sometimes - always with a reliable provider, you know what Ebay cheats are like I guess. The likes of Yodel etc are just too risky.

So Post Office tracked & Collect+ for me. Collect+ have a decent % discount for volume senders.
