According to the mysupermarket price graph the worst price has been £19 and the best price has been £14 since the 23/10 - last March it briefly went to £13

Maybe £11 is for the smaller size??

Has it not been £14 "offer" price for a while? Personally, I think that is an overpayment for Malibu - is not 1L of Malibu £11 elsewhere? That's the price you should be aiming at - not £14 which, for Malibu, is expensive. I think, from my previous checks (of which people will be unaware) ruling out Morries and not getting onto the list as I've kept finding it cheaper elsewhere.

EDIT: Or am I thinking of something else? There is one I've been ruling out M on as it's been cheaper elsewhere. Let me have a think and a look...

SECOND EDIT: It's frustrating, because I can imagine an image of the product, but not its name, on the shelf - I can see it, on the shelf, in my mind. I don't know if it is Malibu or not - I'm thinking of a blue, white and biege or cream livery - someone help me out? It's not Malibu is it but some form of coconut rum? I've tried "Coconut 1L" on msm and nothing relevant has come up.

Anyway, Malibu has been cheaper before, even according to msm - £13 in March so it's not getting onto any list:rotfl:. I don't trust those price graphs as they don't show the cheapest price. I've seen items that have just gone off a very good offer and the price graphs do not show it going down to the low price it actually did.

Whilst I'm onto this - and have nothing better to do (as not updating the M list quite yet) - I'll get out my analysis of the TBG that I never got to before. As I now see it, the TBG is aimed at the vast majority of customers, who do not shop like we do and instead usually end up overpaying on nearly everything. As I've said before, the only way (well, not strictly the only way, but certainly often a good way) of saving money is to shop completely counter to the way most people do. The store's tactics are aimed at how most people shop, and are market-researched, based on that, to a tee. The stores' business (whichever store they are) is to make profit - that is their existence - and it is done by tactics that are researched and they know how people buy and what type of offers and placements in stores influence people to buy. The stores do not have special offers because they are being kind or nice. They have them with the aim of drawing people into the store, making them buy unplanned purchases, in addition to what they originally went to the store for, because the 'offers' look good - whilst at the same time they are purchasing much more besides.

Our aim is to buy the loss-leader and then leave the store. Do not buy anything else!!:money: Or, if you do, it should be researched in advance to see how it compares vs elsewhere and should then preferably, or almost certainly, be bought in a different basket to the loss-leader item that is likely to loss out vs competitors, unless you know for definite it is N/A there. Obviously own brand whoopsies can still be bought and they are 'safe' for TBG (fwiw) if you need to get another's prices on your brands whilst you are there. I think nine different own brand whoopsied items at 1p each would do:rotfl:. Obviously, they are store-specific and you wouldn't have got those at A/S/M.

The way really to save money is to shop completely counter to the way "everyone else" does - as the store is not expecting that and that's the way you will buy things that save you money and don't give that money, as profit, to the store as they are researched for the way most people shop.

In my view the TBG is aimed at the vast majority of customers, who want the "reassurance" that they are not paying more than elsewhere - whilst at the same time, for us, their basket of shopping does not give us the reassurance as they are likely to have bought items on special offer and offset their basket vs elsewhere so will more likely end up paying full T price on all the other items in their basket or instead getting a "discount" of a few pence. As I pointed out earlier, the idea of a "discount" is psychologically a good feeling. It makes you think you are paying less for something than you would have done - which, whilst true compared to what the situation would be if T had no TBG or anything similar at all, is actually not the case as you are simply paying (if all works) the competitor prices - just the same price as you could have got elsewhere: or, indeed paying more than what you would have paid elsewhere, as you also pay, in addition, the extra cost of any own brand items that you buy or which were needed to get 10 items that would not have been required at the competitor.

It's actually there for most customers in areas in which there are choices of competitor stores - who might otherwise shop at one of those, but go to T thinking they can get the other place's prices anyway should the T prices be higher. In fact, however, it's people in areas of competition that should now shop at the competitor store, as the TBG as I see it is almost worthless. The only people really (other than T staff with discount cards) that should use it are those in areas in which there is only T and no other competitors (no A, M or S) - or at least not the competitor store whose prices they wish to get or, if there is an A, then you may as well shop there for S or M shopping and 10% cheaper etc. even if you have no S or M (latter if you are still in Great Britain).

[Strike]Next[/Strike] Soon, I'll have a look at the story of the shopper who tested out the TBG for one of the newspapers - and seems to have thought she would get the prices of the competitors but ended up paying full T prices on at least two of the items in her shop and seems confused about just about every aspect (which is probably what the stores would like).

That's not the issue with the New Covent being N/A. T have 700g version so it's outside the weight range and therefore correctly non-comparable under A's terms.

I think maybe caught by a recent T price change on the alcohols - system not updated yet? That's one possibility (one thought that comes to mind without me checking) - shame it's not worked.

I thought that - yet I seem positive in my mind it's 1L. I've done that before and been wrong:rotfl:. It's a blue and creamy livery maybe white bottle help me out what is it?

I wouldn't trust the price graphs - they have been and are wrong. I could recount you numerous instances, from memory:D (a better memory hopefully:rotfl:), in which the graphs are completely wrong. One was after Sugar Puffs 450g rose in price in A one Saturday probably two years ago - it suddenly shot up from £1 to £2.80:eek:. Price graph I think was showing it going down to £1.50 price before. There was no low of £1 on the graph, even though it had been consistently that price for quite a while. Sugar Puffs 450g, in passing, is now at £1 in A (and also in Poundland apparently) which is why you should ignore Sugar Puffs 320g offers at £1 in M and T. Even though I'd prefer 500g for prices of £1 - as it makes it quite a bit dear with it being 50g lower (in A for the better priced pack).

Martini Prosecco 750ml, on the M side of msm.co.uk, is showing current £6 as the best price on msm price graph when my records (from one bit of paper I missed when clearing out) show that it was cheaper than that in January this year. My contemporaneously- taken notes of the time:rotfl:. (Near the end of January, i.e. within the last 12 months' period showing on msm, it was £5.49 in M - take it from me, it was!)

It seems to me it's often the case that, when an item goes onto "Savvy Buy", the price graph on msm always shows it immediately just dipping all the way down as the latest thing on the graph. It seems earlier, similar - or even lower - prices for the same item get removed on the graph at that point - I've seen items actually increase in price and then appear on msm as a Savvy Buy with a graph showing a reduction to the current price as being the lowest price, when it is not.

The worst situation, in terms of pounds increase, was when a (probably mispriced) Fairy washing powder, which had been put at £4 in Sains. for a couple of days - I think they mispriced it - I grabbed two immediately at £4 each paying fully with a BM:D - rose very soon to £8 - doubled in price - and was still on msm as a "Savvy Buy" at the £8:eek: price and showing more than 30% lower than average. Given that Fairy washing powder - and that's also why I think they mispriced it and S soon corrected their error (but not soon enough to stop me!:D:D) - is usually hugely expensive - and this was 45 washes - it would still be 30% cheaper than full prices even at £8. This was about the Savvy Buys though - clearly it was a Savvy Buy at £4 before and, once it then rose to the 'correct' offer of £8 ceased to be so for me! - and not an issue with the price graphs. I can't remember if it then showed £4 or not - it probably didn't!

I thought the price graphs were now "average price in the UK" - in other words across stores rather than in one store - however, the graphs change depending on which supermarket on the site you are shopping in.

Of course, average across different retailers hides the fact that the product has been much much lower priced briefly at one retailer than what the "average" is. I never aim to pay "average" prices;).
