Ok.
So, back on track (and back in the UK).
Thought I'd update so that if anyone is searching for info this is up to date.
You can take take bottles (formula unopened, opened and in baby bottles) through the airports we travelled through (see below) - security do ask that you only take what you need for the journey. It doesn't need to be under 100ml.
Some airports (Edinburgh) put the bottles through a special xray machine and others just let it through. Some airport security make you take it out of the bags and put it into a tray on it's own and some tell you to keep it in the bags. You always have to take the baby out of the buggy to put it through security, security will take the buggy away to thoroughly inspect it and expect a security guard to pat down your baby (they do ask you if it's ok first).
All airlines we travelled with allowed us to take the buggy to the boarding gate - this was really helpful as the baby slept quite a lot in airports and we could store bags underneath. All airlines gave us a large plastic bag to wrap the buggy in (and the car seat which was placed in the hold). If transiting through Dubai you can use a McLaren stroller free of charge - these are found near arrivals in a "bike storage" type locker.
The airports we travelled through were Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Dubai, Singapore, Perth and Melbourne.
Singapore, Edinburgh and Dubai airports have special lanes for families travelling with young children.
All airlines we flew with (KLM, Singapore Airlines. Emirates and Virgin Australia) allowed us to take a buggy plus a car seat ON TOP of our baggage allowance. KLM, Singapore and Emirates allowed us to take an extra bag for the baby (checked in) up to 10k and all allowed us to take a bag onboard full of babies stuff (they say nappies, bottles only but we also took clothes and toys).
Singapore Airlines were by far the best with attending to your baby (we didn't expect extra attention or special treatment however it was pleasant). Our baby received toy after toy, nappies, wipes, bibs, little bags with lotions etc.. it in. Singapore Airlines gave our baby a special meal all of her own and took our food orders in advance and staggered my and my husband's meal so that we could feed the baby.
If I think of anything else I'll write it here. Thanks to those who answered with correct info.0
