We collect Chestnuts too locally there are loads of them in a field near us.

An old friend told me once that if you want to store them and keep them nice and fresh for stuffing mix etc. for Christmas. You put them in a tin with the lid on and bury them in the garden in a pile of leaves and they will be fresh at Christmas. Not sure if it works but reading this thread reminded me of it. Anyone else tried that?? If so did it work??

I freeze some, defrost it at room temperature.....still taste fresh:)
