You're sure they were the right kind of chestnuts?0 -
Just a short addendum. I finally managed to get some in a branch of Waitrose yesterday. A nearby Sainsbury's however (a huge branch) didn't have them in stock and when I asked I was told 'we don't have them yet. They may be in in a week or two'. So it sounds like this could be a regional thing.
Strange are the ways of supermarkets.0 -
I noticed packets of the Merchant Gourmet chestnuts in Sainsbury's this evening. They were on the end-of-aisle shelves and it looked like they were going to be on offer - unfortunately Tuesday evening is when they change over the offers in my local branch so they didn't have the new price labels up yet, but they seemed to have loads in.0

We are fortunate to have hazlenuts, Kent cobnuts and walnuts within walking distance of our house.

We are foragers - pure and simple, because we are forced to do so - and we enjoy it.:)0 -
We collect Chestnuts too locally there are loads of them in a field near us.
An old friend told me once that if you want to store them and keep them nice and fresh for stuffing mix etc. for Christmas. You put them in a tin with the lid on and bury them in the garden in a pile of leaves and they will be fresh at Christmas. Not sure if it works but reading this thread reminded me of it. Anyone else tried that?? If so did it work??*3.36 kWp solar panel system,10 x Ultima & 4 x Panasonic solar panels, Solaredge Inverter *Biomass boiler stove for cooking, hot water & heating *2000ltr Rainwater harvesting system for loo flushing *Hybrid Toyota Auris car *RIP Pingu, Hoppy, Ginger & Biscuit *Hens & Ducks* chat thread. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=52822090
