To answer my own question, I think this might be the Menzies Chequers Hotel...0 -
Very generic description, could be any hotel, not easy to pin down.
"Madness, hotel bookings with swimming pool and spa close to city Barbican"
This review is about the Thistle City Barbican and people ought to be warned not to go there. I was happy to find a deal for this hotel but my experience of it was not good. I was put in a noisy claustrophobic annex one bed room like an oven. I used the toilet without closing the door and there was no sign of toilet roll - it was on the wall beyond the sink behind the door. The plastic flooring and uneven tiles made it feel very DIY decorated and the tap waggled. Then I attempted to cool the room and had to take the booklet to the reception desk to say I could not find the "arrows on the wall will control the heating /air conditioning". There was none. They were kind enough to move me to a quiet room on the fifth floor where the windows could be opened. The bath plug chain came off in my hand so I couldn't empty the bath. The spa and gym were great. The breakfast had a mushroom sized chunk of dirt in with the mushrooms and I only noticed it after eating gritty scrambled egg that I had put on top of the mushrooms. The waiter didn't speak English. I got frightful diarrhoea during the rest of my journey to the north of England.0 -
I thought I would post 2 of the Top Secret Hotels I have found:
Superb high quality hotel next to Tower Bridge - 5* - London
This hotel offers luxury facilities and great views over London for all travellers. Dining in the hotel's restaurant is a great experience, enjoy local and international dishes with exceptional service. All guests enjoy complimentary use of the swimming pool, gym, steam room and sauna
Grange City Hotel - Very nice upscale business based hotel, not sure if it should really be rated the same as the likes of the Savoy, but certainly a very nice hotel to stay at if you can get a good deal. Currently it is on for £159 for a night (£282 if not a Top Secret Hotel), but I have stayed before for £90 on a weekend and £120 during the week.
Luxury Hotel with Stunning Views Over Tower Bridge - 4*
The property is offering stunning views over London's iconic Tower Bridge. This is a luxurious accommodation within the famous Tower Bridge area. The hotel amenities include a 32 inch flat screen digital TV, individual climate control and king/queen sized beds.
Grange Tower Bridge Hotel - I just booked this one, have never stayed here, but if the Grange city is anything to go by, I suspect it will still be nice (albeit 1 star lower). Just booked it for a cracking deal at £99 for the night, where the non top secret price is £191, and it would seem for a stay tonight there are not many great deals, so on a weekend, this should be lower still.0 -
If you enter the details of any of the Top Secret Hotels into Google, they tend to come up with the answer.
What do others think?
Communication was a problem. I had a very bad experience here. A chunk of dirt cooked in with the mushrooms and diarrhoea on my train journey home as a result of it as well as being put into an unacceptable room to start with. This was their reply:
Dear Mrs. Duggan,
Please accept my sincere apologies for the unpleasant experience during your lat stay. I would like to assure you that your comments have been taken very constructively and action will be taken improve things moving forward.
Just to keep informed of our current preventive maintenance plan in place, this includes redecorating our bedrooms as necessary to improve quality of our product. We had positive comments of the improvement and we our committed to continue our plan. We have checked the maintenance in the room and it was an unexpected fault and we have other preventions to ensure safety. Health and Safety is paramount to us and be res assured we do not sell any rooms that does not meet the Safety standards.
I have spoken to the Executive Head Chef who joins me in apologizing to the human error made from our part and Chef had taken extra preventing measures to improve our standards moving forward. I regret the fact that you had diarrhea and this alleged claim does not mean it was subject to this incident as we do not have any other complaints from over 600 guests who consumed breakfast from the same buffet.
I’m unable to make remarks on your comments of our team members because we practice an equal opportunity policy in the Hotel. However, we have taken necessary steps to re-train our team to improve our standards moving forward.
Mr. Duggan, we are a dedicated, professional and innovative team here and we Endeavour to offer the best service and facilities, however we have failed to meet your expectations. As a way of apology, I would like to offer you a full refund of £75.00 and please confirm your address in order for me to post a cheque in your favor.
If I may be any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me, otherwise I sincerely hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back, in the near future.
Yours sincerely,
