  • How about Rome? We stayed for three nights in September and loved it as there's plenty to see. Not the cheapest though.

Of course I would look at going south for the sunshine. So AMS would be out. Portugal is good at the moment. I would look at Faro, then Lisbon and lastly Oporto/Porto. But that would be in order of the warmest weather. Overall Lisbon might be best and I think both Ryanair and Easyjet fly there. Ryanair from £70 to £82 dependent on flight times for next Thursday to Sunday.
Alternatively, try southern Italy. Again, some low cost airline choices there.
Currently, you are looking at temperatures of up to 24 degrees in southern Portugal. So that could be your best best for weather and cost of living. Southern Italy, perhaps around 19 degrees. Still ok.
Eastern Europe sounds depressing. :) Poland even colder and wetter than the UK.
Istanbul also sounds interesting, but I fear by December the temperature and weather will have changed. So better to pay a little more to go asap. Perhaps around £100 with Pegasus or Turkish Airlines for next Thursday to Sunday, whilst the weather is still good. Forecast between 20 and 25 degrees for those days.
Current thread: One night in Istanbul
You sound like my missus! Won't go anywhere where a coat might be required. Or even a jumper!

Just as well really, as she has no problem with me going on loads of trips without her, so long as it's to somewhere cold :)

The cheapest/warmest country this time of year from Gatwick- your nearest airport will be Spain; look at http://flightchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/ and pump in 'anywhere in Spain' and you'll get returns from £45-up for 3-6 night stopovers. Of these offers, Barcelona in the north-east and vearby Mallorca won't be warm, however, so consider either the south (Malaga) or the Canaries (Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria...) at £70-80 return. Find a cheap hotel on booking.com or hotels.com and cross-check its rating against the reviews on Tripadvisor.

You could try the same approach to North Africa (?!?) or Crete (much dearer flights) but Eastern Europe, northern Spain and the Balkans will be cold- even Southern Italy is nippy by now.

    Buon viaje!

It may be a silly question but if you haven't been out of the UK previously, are you in possession of a passport?

thanks all for the suggestions, will be having a bigger look soon, otherwise just to answer the couple of questions, normally drop her off at about 8pm, and yes i do have a passport - although i really need to check if its still valid as it must be 8-9 years old now lol.
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

    Seventh Anniversary
I had a lovely weekend in Porto this year, otherwise Eastern European cities like Prague or Krakow will be lovely near Christmas (off to Prague and Berlin myself in 3 weeks)
