Christmas music in shops etc

Why do retailers feel the need to play Christmas music for 4-6 weeks in their shops? They think it's a jolly thing to do. Nope. Not for their workers having to put up with two dozen songs on a loop - torture. Even customers sympathise with us.
Then some call centres (can't remember which ones) play Christmas music for their queue and/or hold music.
It's the same songs for the past 25 plus years.
My employer doesn't play music apart from Christmas music.
I wonder if others feel the same, retail workers or customers

I think employees should be able to claim compensation for being forced to listen to such garbage day after day. Nearly as bad as water boarding.0

Luckily I haven't been subjected to this yet either at work or out shopping.0

Still, look on the bright side. They'll be Easter eggs on sale soon.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

Count yourself lucky with a selection.
When I worked for Virgin Cars (short lived company) they played two tracks..."Have a nice day" and "It's a beautiful day" repeatedly one after the other throughout the whole shift and the 5 Months I was there.
Two songs I did originally like have been etched into my brain so much so, I cannot stand to hear them anymore.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
"Marleyboy you are a legend!"
MarleyBoy "You are the Greatest"
Marleyboy You Are A Legend!
Marleyboy speaks sense

Think I might have had "accidentally" spilt my tea into the PA system just before I knocked off on my first day..0 -
This is my annoyance, when I was a teenager and worked in a clothes shop they played the same CD I think it was on loop, it got so annoying to hear the same songs many times on my shift. I could predict which song would come next!
I also think it's too early for Christmas songs in shops. I think the earliest they should play them is at the beginning of December or the very earliest a month before Christmas.0 -
Boot have been doing it for over a week now. Hate christmas music.0

I don't actually understand the need to play Christmas music in shops, it's not like if they don't play it we'll forget it's coming and not spend money in their shop.
I'd actually spend longer in a shop that wasn't playing Christmas music than one that was.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

But - if I worked in a shop playing Christmas music from opening to closing time 2 months before 25th December, that would be a different thing altogether.0 -
Why do you work in a shop OP, is there nothing else you can do? It seems you dislike *everything* about your job!0
