I didn't link you to an opinion. I linked you to a study article.

Edited this as it was a bit harsh.
Part of my dislike for alternative medicine is because of an experience an acquaintance had.
She is a great fan of alternative medication. She treated colds with vitamin C (you'll just excrete any your body doesn't use), bruises with arnica cream, and spent £170 a month on homeopathy pills.
She tried to get my to stop taking my thyroxine and ventolin, and use seaweed and a salt pipe for my conditions. She tried to get my type 1 diabetic ex to cut his insulin and use homeopathy instead.
(It should be said she was ill ALL THE TIME and anaemic.)
Then her mum got cancer. Said acquaintance saw how ill chemo was making her mother, and suggested a raw fruit diet combined with reiki, homeopathy and some herbal stuff would help more.
Her mum told the docs she didn't want any more chemo "as it was making her ill".
Funnily enough, sadly her mum lost her life. The chemo could have saved her, but because her daughter enthused about how much better she was looking without it...she stopped it. Now daughter swings between "I did my best" and "I killed my mum". Go figure
There's a personal anecdote for you. I know it's a bit of an extreme example, but it's a good one. Stick with proven meds IMO.

There are no meds for my condition and NHS offers no help at all. Your example is just an example, I could give you 100 others where homeopathy has helped (I'm one of them, although this time is proving a struggle even for my doctor, and I'm just looking for some relief). I don't have cancer and I hope I never see myself in that position, it's a terrible disease and no one can assure that your friend's mom would have survived even with chemo. It was her decision and her life at the end of the day.
(by the way if your friend was spending £170 a month in homeopathy, someone was ripping her off completely!)
If I finally give it a go will let you all now how it went. Worst case scenario will only be some money wasted.0 -
When i was a lot more gullible and visited a spiritualist church i tried it.
It didn't work for me.
If it's free by all means go for it, but if it costs money it's likely you can get more effective placebos for free. All your base are belong to us.0 -
Any placebos you know for free, please let me know and I'll try them!!

I was having weekly aromatherapy massages years ago to help with stress caused by long term infertility and my masseur said she was a trained reiki practitioner and incorporated this into the massage as well as some reflexologist. I saw her every week for about 2 years and I was still pretty stressed during that period and definitely didn't conceive either.
That being said I had no belief at the time (or now) that someone putting their hands on my body could transmit any form of healing force so there would have been no placebo effect from the reiki element of the massage.0 -
I don't think the OP intended for the thread to turn into a bun-fight
There are pros and cons of both conventional AND complementary therapies. In fact it is well known that in a lot of cases chemo kills the patient long before the cancer does.

Any experiences out there, good or bad?
Reiki is a system of healing based on an ancient Japanese Buddhist method. I know some people who have used it, and certainly none of them spoke bad of it.left the forum due to trolling/other nonsense

OP - Mixed feelings by us posters.
I was a guinea pig for a lady that was training. I had about three sessions with her as I remember, it was very relaxing but didn't 'feel' any different. Perhaps it was because there was nothing really wrong with me?
Why not just try a couple and see what you think?0 -

This ^^. Book yourself in for one session, round here it is about £45 for an hour. If you feel lovely and relaxed afterwards then it has done you some good. If you don't feel any different then try something else.
I don't understand how Reiki works at all, but anything that helps you deeply relax, along with being helped by somebody who is empathic towards you can have a really good effect on your mind and therefore your whole body.0 -
