Just in the process of getting all my DD's to come out on the 15th as that is my pay day so all my bills are paid and cleared, now my wife isnt working anymore i want to make sure what we have left is for us to spend on food etc for us and the children.
I have found most places have no problem with this , but some cant seem to move the payment dates, this was AOL, Carphone Warehouse, TV Licencing.
Cant see why they cant change the dates as all other companys have been very helpful , even the council tax payment could be moved.
I might move from Talk Talk, cant move from AOL as they are the cheapest for me (£9.95 p/m), and TV licencing well they have got me over a barrell i rekon as i cant go elsewhere.

Hi, how's about opening a 2nd account, use the 1st one for bills and use this for your spend on food etc. ? this Is what I sort of do, I also use a spreadsheet to plan my outgoings each month. I have also found it impossible to alter some DD.0

Think its a bit of a hassle opening a second account, i suppose im lucky its only going to be about £35 left to pay over the rest of the month, PITA tho.0

TV licensing are a pain in the A$$. I get paid by cheque (dated the last day of the month) and the TVLA wont change my DD date either. The very nice chap I spoke to on the phone said that all DDs are collected on the first available day of the month and couldnt be changed. Last month, because of the postal strikes our wages were late arriving...... so guess what happened? TVLA tries to take their money, can't, and the bank charges me for returning a DD
Oh and before anyone asks: 1. the person I work for WILL NOT pay anyone by any other means, he has refused many people over 16 years. 2. The bank I have my account with DO pay out on DDs if there is money showing in my account even if it is an uncleared cheque, and 3. This is not My, My employer or the Postie's fault, this is the fault of the TVLA and their unbending attitude.
I am in a very bad mood today, does it show?

I am just trying to work out why this is the TVLAs fault? They have told you exactly when they will be taking the money therefore as a responsible adult the onus is 100% on the person operating the account to ensure that the funds are available on that date .. random excuses about employer, postal strikes etc. are, or at least should be, irrelevant.

The funds are usually available on that date, and I have a very tight budget. Sometimes things happen to screw that budget up. Doesn't that ever happen to you? Lucky you if it doesn't.DFW Nerd no 239.....Last Personal Debt paid off Nov 2012!

There are some bank accounts available which allow you to go overdrawn (£50) without incurring any charges, including interest.
Surely changing to one of these accounts would be beneficial - you wouldnt have to pay bank charges that way.
That means you could easily afford the monthly direct debit instruction for the tv licencing fee.
If however you cannot get a different account because of credit related issues then what you could do is furnish your account with £15 credit. That way your TV monthly fee would always get paid and in actual fact you would always be £15 in credit.
If however you cannot afford £15 then I suggest you sell something on ebay or ask your employer for a few hours overtime or do a paper round for a two weeks and you'll be £15 better off!
If however you cannot do any of the above then I wonder how you manage through life.0 -
Poppy, no disrespect but the onus is on you to make sure you have the funds available on the appropriate day (which you know about) .. if the funds are not there on that day then you have nobody but yourself to blame ... maybe DD is not the best payment method for you (in this case).poppycracker wrote: »The funds are usually available on that date, and I have a very tight budget. Could you cancel the TVLA DD and put the money into a savings account and then pay them annually? We all evolve - get on with it0

Personally, I would leave a week between your pay date and any DDs - what if your pay is late? The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.
