Also, as Professional Engineer I can countersign passport photos, but obviously in the eyes of the AA I don't meet the standards of integrity associated with Bankers, Accountants etc., those well known paragons of honesty and virtue.
What a joke. Not that I could sign off my own documents, but you get the point.
They make up the unnecessary process of certification to look more secure. In fact this is just a sign of incompetence.
Other banks, UK passport could accept other professionals for counter signing,

https://www.gov.uk/countersigning-passport-applications
Also the way the letter is worded no guarantee after doing this you will be accepted. So arrogant ..... I have several bank accounts, credit cards, have mortgage and recently manage to remortgage for a lower interest I have not seen any other banks, credit-cards I have dealt with are worded as such arrogant wording particularly after asking such draconian proofs...
Or might be just a money making exercise as the Post office staffs are included on the lists. Post office financial division are owned by Bank of Ireland, the same with the issuer of AA and Post Office Credit cards. They will ask you £8 PER PAGE for certifications. So count that how much they earn for three months bank accounts, three pay slips, utility Bills. Keep in mind one month bank a/c statement could be several pages.
Here is summarising the list of their incompetence.

I had this too. Despite having perfect credit history, and in fact having held an AA card a couple of years ago.
At the time I thought perhaps they didn't really want me as a customer because last time I used their 0% offer then paid off in full and closed.
But reading this thread perhaps it's just a more general thing. Strange that they've changed their policy so drastically in just a couple of years though.
It wasn't worth my time and effort to get everything they'd asked for so I didn't bother and moved onto another 0% offer.0 -
Well my written compliant has still not even been acknowledged so another letter has gone off.
Don't hold out much hope

Their policy hasn't changed except in line wih legislation. Like others in this thread I applied online for an AA card a few weeks ago, was approved with balance transfer accepted and card received in about a week. No documents or checks whatsoever.
Since then I also applied for and received a BA Amex card, same simple process, no extra checks. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
For those who have been declined or been asked to produce a draconian paperworks; mind you there are people here have been walking around with their noses in the air rubbing it in your face thinking that you people who have been asked to produce a draconian paperworks or got rejected because you have "a dodgy credit history"
Look at here post #13 the last sentence for instance.

Well, it is not necessary so. I for instance I got approved Tesco zero fee 0% 0n BT Credit card in less than six minutes with generous credit limit recently. I pretty much doubt the one who claims this has a better credit history than mine. 0 -
Well, you know, if you want an AA BoI card that badly you'll have to jump through their hoops. But personally when I viewed the AA cards recomended by Clearscore I decided that Clearscore must be bonkers. There are other cards out there.0

Still seems lender specific though to me; if legislation has changed and requires all these additional checks now, then how come for every other card I've applied for since, I've not been asked to do the same?
I really think it must be an internal AA policy update of some sort that is now causing this. Either way I've made a note not to bother with them again, there are plenty more 0% cards out there to cycle round0 -

This is internal AA policy. People you could see here the certification process in the UK. AA and BOI is subject to UK regulation, not Ireland.
https://www.gov.uk/certifying-a-document
"Certifying a document
Certify a document as a true copy of the original by getting it signed and dated by a professional person, like a solicitor.
When you apply for something like a bank account or mortgage, you may be asked to provide documents that are certified as true copies of the original
Who can certify a document
To certify documents, ask a professional person or someone well-respected in your community (‘of good standing’) like a:
bank or building society official
councillor
minister of religion
dentist
chartered accountant
solicitor or notary
teacher or lecturer
. "
The post office staffs are not even on the list ...0
