Goodwill Gesture

Hi
I bought some gates and railing from a company called cannock gates, the products are flimsy. I hired a builder to help fit the gates (he charged £50).
When it was time to fit the railings they were short by 3inch, I contacted the company and they replied that they are made like that to allow for the fittings. Now the fittings are really poor and are like a t-shape (1/2 inch width if the product screws all the way down the centre thread) with a long thread to allow for a nut. So even if we were to fit the railings against the brick they would not be flush with the wall.
I contacted the company and they argued the 3inch gap rule is in their terms and conditions and on their how to measure page. But I couldn't see it and they ignored my request for them to point it out specifically. They then offered a goodwill gesture of £120, when in fact it should be £160.
Should I take it and just leave it like that and avoid the fuss or do you think I should do a chargeback for the amount (paid with visa card)?
thanks

How did thisnot help you?
not criticising , just asking.0 -
Hi
It doesn't state on that page that the width of the railings are reduced by 3inch to allow for fittings.
I gave two measurements one for a longer 53inch railing and another for a 35 1/2 wide railing they're both listed on the invoice as "to fit gap of 53inch and 35 1/2 inches. The actual refund amount is £164.16.

Don't know the terms of the gesture.
Initially I asked them to send out the right size but they said they were the right size. So after going back and forwards I got fed up and said just refund the railings and collect them.
Quoting what the builder said "They'll look daft with them fittings".
So yeah, not keeping them.0 -
Having bespoke ones would more than likely increase the outlay here by 2-3 times I would say, At the end of the day if they are offering a gog and allowing you to keep them why not just suck it up and think to oneself what a good deal you have got ?0

They're not allowing me to keep them (even if they did I wouldn't keep them as they'd look incredibly stupid suspended on threads).
And they're the wrong size than what's on the invoice.0 -
So they dont want to give you a full refund?0

So the title is wrong, this isn't about a good will gesture. What you need to know are your rights to a refund as they've supplier the wrong goods.
What size did you order, what is the opening you want to fit them into and what size was supplied?0 -
