Mobile Phone Xchange scam?

Hi Guys,

I was using one of Money Saving Experts services, MobileValuer.com to find the company offering the best price for my 2 phones. One of the selected vendors on the site was Mobile Phone Xchange and I went ahead and sent my two phones to them. It was only 3 days after they said they received my phone and the money will be transferred to my account within 24 hours did I start getting suspicious. I then went digging into the company and it turns out only few people have had good service with them, the majority of the people seemed to get scammed. With 1.5/10 on trust pilot I'm starting to get worried, these were very expensive phones.

I was naive to think that anything Money Saving Experts put on their sites is trusted (despite reading disclaimer on the homepage). I know I should have done some investigation before I sent my phones, that it's completely my fault. I was just hoping if anyone would be able to advise me on what to do next if i don't receive the money?

Thanks.

A letter before action - assuming you can prove everything.
  • That's great thank you grumbler. I think I have sufficient evidence, I have the email from them saying they will pay me X amount of money etc. My next question would be do you think it's worth going to court for? As the costs for the SCC would most likely outweigh the cost of the phones.

    Thanks.

AFAIK, if you win, you get the fees back and this doesn't cost you anything.
It's a different question whether it will be possible to enforce the court ruling and get any money from a company if it's one-man operation from a shed and doesn't have any assets.

Personally, I would do this on principle.
  • It seems I had nothing to worry about! The money has been paid into my account, albeit 2 days late. From all of the horror stories I heard about this company, I'm surprised I've had relatively good service from them.

Thanks for your help anyway Grumbler.
