Thursday 12th November - what small DFW thanks will you be doing today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

  • Morning all. :hello: early start as DD2 wandered in just before 6 :o I hope everyone is ok, I feel pretty rubbish, far too tired to really do anything useful and getting increasingly stressed about small things. I need to do something about it so it doesn't get worse. I don't appear to have any time to take evasive actions though :(

    Anyway, on with my list:
Lots of work to try and get me back on track. Need to drive to another town for a meeting, work will buy lunch but I won't spend anything else
Claim back 2 lots of expenses from last month
Continue to minimise the washing mountain :o
Try and find my cheque book and labels for a sale I really need that has been tidied away by DH with no logic applied :p
    Pay nursery bill
Update my spreadsheet ready for payday tomorrow
    Early night I think :)
Try and do some thinking in the car to give me head some space
Try not to tell work to shove it :rotfl: as that wouldn't be good in the long term.

Hope everyone has a good day, I'll be back later to check in :)
  • Morning Jonno - thanks for the start. I can completely relate to how you're feeling at the moment. I just want to disappear to a spa or something for a weekend and leave the entire world behind. And I don't even like stuff like spas.:rotfl: Hope things sort themselves out soon for you.
Hello to everyone else that follows as well :D
I'm shattered today as well. I can't believe there are another 5 working weeks before the next holiday. I really need a rest of some sort very soon.
    Here's today's list
 mark a set of books - urgent!
    plan next week's lessons
 try not to get stressed
 don't make any big decisions
 try and chase up my missing work expenses if I get time
    check banking, no PAD
    load of washing
    minimise heating use
    aim for nsd
    all meals from stores
Think that's about it for now.

  • Good morning Jonno and thanks for starting the thread. I hope your day goes well for you. And CCL, you have been having such a challenging time but you seem to be so resilient. Hope you get that well earned rest soon. I am off to a conference with work so am on an early train. Here are my few steps, I'm keeping it simple as you can see!
    1. Keep posting every day on the small steps thread
    2. Remembered an expense I can claim
    3. Resist temptation to spend whilst travelling on business for 2 days
    4. Keep filling in YNAB
    Keep safe out there y'all!
Aiming to early retire August 31st 2026.

  • Morning everyone, thanks Jonno for the start

Its going to be a good day today i can feel it! :)

    Drop kids off at school.
Pop into town for previous bank statements.
    Fill out SOA.
    Start YNAB.
    Tidy Up.
    Finish Spreadsheet.

Still in the process of sorting my debts out but if my thinking is correct then the reason one of my old Current Accounts is -£1553 is a good thing! :)

    Have a great day everyone

    Morning Campers,
    Today I will:
*Iron only what needs it & switch off for last couple of garments.
*Switch dehumidyfier off & open windows instead.
*Have a free workout in the garden clearing more of the big border I started yesterday.
    *Knit more Christmas present jumper.
*Avoid horrendous vet bill (or worse) by thoroughly hoovering up every scrap of lily pollen from my anniversary bouquet before hermetically sealing dead lilies & binning. (Terribly toxic to cats).
*Do meal plans for next week.
*Check online banking to see if Onepoll payment has landed.
    *Write shopping list.
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Plan picnics for weekend when we'll be out both days & temptation will be calling.
*Keep heating off downstairs. It's so mild at the moment, it's just a case of putting a cardi on.
Have a good day all, especially people who are feeling stressed but having to go off to work & put a brave face on.

  • Hi All

Need to remember my glass is half full. Must stop moaning.

Am off to visit family tomorrow and have no idea why I am not bouncing with excitement. Perhaps I will be overwhelmed with joy tomorrow. This is my annual holiday. Big event in my life. celebratory activity etc etc.

Today looks like a walking through treacle kind of day.

I should be feeling positive, I tidied a drawer this morning, threw out some stuff and this usually gets me in the mood for life. Just watch this space, bet I am bouncing by elevenses and motoring on.

    Feeling miserable, but determined.

    Maria.
