    We were just on about Cadburys Roses tins reducing in size and hubby found an old tin in the shed from 2003 (the BB date was 04/2004) and the weight of the tin was 1.8kg inc wraps.

    Shocking!

    This is a yearly moan.

    I think those large tins cost £9.99 each back then, sometimes discounted to £7.99.

    Tesco was selling 729g tubs for £4 recently.

    And I saw two tubs of Quality Street advertised for £6 a few days ago.

    According to this inflation calculator:

    £9.99 in 2003 is £14.52 in today's money;
    £7.99 in 2003 is £11.61 in today's money;
    £5 in 2003 is £7.27 in today's money.

    good to see somebody can see beyond the weight on the tin

    so your £9.99 in 2003 is £14.52 in today's money and that will buy three of the £4.00 tubs which will be more chocolates than you got in 2003 and some change

    sounds like a bargain to me
  • The tins don't half stink compared to the Roses tubs.

    My co-op were trying to sell 2 tubs of roses for £9, :eek: don't know about QS prices but that smell really was enough to pass.

    We had a box of Quality Street... 1 green triangle, 1 purple one, 2 toffee pennies... dreadful :(

    Also the Milk Tray selection this year has the weirdest chocolate in it...

    A milk chocolate shell containing an apple-flavoured white chocolate truffle with cinnamon flavoured crunchy bits.

    Admittedly the only other one I didn't eat was the Strawberry Temptation so I probably did quite well. :rotfl:

    I bought my Mum some Milk Tray for Christmas and I admittedly quite liked the Apple Crunch sweet.

    I did make the mistake of eating a Strawberry Temptation... was like swigging from a bottle of Calpol :eek:.

    I am surprised Mondelez have removed the "Eastern Delight" sweet from Milk Tray. Given that worldwide supplies of Cocoa are reportedly running shorter (poor harvest and greater demand from the Far East) I'd have thought less chocolate with sweeter, more sugary fillings would've been more "economical".

    In terms of tins getting smaller each year I did spot Sainsbury's selling a tin of Quality Street for around 1Kg and that was £8 I think.

    This article shows Quality Street containers over the years. I remember when the tins were large enough to take a large deep cake .

    Again not a true reflection of the story
    Nestl!, which owns the British confectionary brand, have defended their festive tins saying the picture is an unfair comparison as a larger 1.3kg tub is still on sale.

    so you can buy a small tin for £4.00 or you can buy a bigger tin for more money

    you can go into the supermarket and buy a standard tin of beans or you can buy a smaller tin for less money, but would you go in and buy the smaller tin and then go on the internet and say ooh look my tin of beans has shrunk
