Had a bill this morning from Equigas (Southern Electric) and the enclosed letter said invoices from now on will be six monthly based on read meters, no more estimates and d.d.'s will be assessed each time.
Plus a freephone number and opt out.
No mention of long term contracts tho I for one would welcome it if it stabilises or reduces the price.

Equigas is a product from EBICo a not-for-profit Company, limited by Guarantee.
Its not owned by Southern Electric. They merely look after the admin etc etc.

Yes, jhp, and a damned good administration it is too. If Ebico ever fold, I see a proven service rating in Southern Electric.
The synergy is not unlike Powergen/Age Concern, BG/Help the Aged, a revenue gathering hook for niche customers.
In this case, probably Co-op members, Nationwide , communes and any profit haters.
  • Any of you guys who are with Ebico through Southern Electric would actually get your fuels a lot cheaper if you went on Southern Electric's Gen Dom tariffs and standard gas tariff too!

It used to be cheaper...but not any more after these latest price decreases!

Atlantic come out cheaper for gas £10 and Br.Gas online electric £13, but for £23 will stay with Eb.

There must be a heavy cost factor in taking on pre-payers at normal rates.
  • Southern electric gas prices are 0.0221p per kw which is cheaper than ebico gas prices and also Southern Electric gives an extra 6% off the unit prices which knocks it down to 0.0207p per kw.

Six monthly bills for anyone who has been with SE (or it could be Equigas) for minimum 1 year.
    There is an opt out.

Don't see where you get this from?
The leaflet says "That's why every six months we'll come and read your meter and if you're not in we'll try and give you a call"

From previous calls I have had with them, they only send a meter reader every 6 months, but the bills will still be quarterly.

If you have any questions you can call them free,(from a landline), on 0800 117 116 where they will be able to confirm that bills will still be quarterly.

Different letter Derrick....quote..if you have been a customer for more than a year we plan to send a statement every 6 months after we have cxalled to read your meter. We will no longer send you an estimated statement in betweeen times. We will also check your payments to ensure you are paying the right amount..etc..etc unquote then they give a freephone number and "one size does not fit all". so an opt out.

    Ken,
Do you think that will just be for those paying by DD(see bolded sentence above), or DD and quarterly?
I appreciate the tariff is the same for both methods of payment.

I would have thought that getting payment 6 months in arrears might cause cash flow problems for Ebico(the reduced admin costs will offset it a bit); and some customers might not appreciate bills of £hundreds.
