The NH say why should they, surely it is SS responsibility. The NH reckon a new Care Assessment will move her up from level 2 to level 3, meaning that SS must contribute.
It's a bit hard to make an assessment of what's reasonable here until you can pin down the SS on what they will pay.You need to do this so that you can seek a replacement home.
Start your search here:

The behaviour of both the SS and the nursing home in using your mother as a political football is apparently a common feature of the current completely dysfunctional care system.
The Daily Mail is running a "Dignity for the Elderly" campaign and the main journalist writing about care issues is Steve Doughty. He may be interested to hear the details of your mother's plight.

Ted, you're bang out of order.
If you're going to spam a thread, then perhaps it would be more sensitive to choose a different one? Or start one yourself on the particular subject that you are posting. Then you can pick or choose your board........
This lady is 92 years old and hardly qualifies for a lecture on sun exposure (which in effect is what you are giving)."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
daisyroots,
I just wanted to send you and your Ma lots of love.
Some time ago my Grandad was in pretty much the same position, and was due to be moved. He passed away ten years ago today, just days before the move. He was in the late stages of Alzheimers, so everyone said he didn't know anyway, but I know he did, and it was just too much of a coincidence for me.
I don't want anyone to go through what my Grandad did, and for this reason I would advise that you contact and make aware everybody that you can. Speak to your MP, contact your local paper, contact the national press ... it is all so wrong, somebody has to take up your case.
The timing of your case has really hit a chord, if you need any help please feel free to PM me.
Lots of love xGone ... or have I?0 -
I would agree about Ted also.
Ted, your information may well be useful to someone, but please delete it from this thread. I am sure that you will appreciate that, if it was a loved one of your own, you would not want someone interrupting more useful responses.
As said before, please delete your posts on this thread.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Please, let's all slow down a little. I'm 100% positive that Ted meant well with his post. He has been a great help to many on here.
I'm going through pretty much the same thing as the OP, just not so advanced . I took no offence at Ted's post at all and I'm sorry that the OP seemed to do so.
OP, best of luck in all your efforts with your Ma!0 -
Ted, could I ask you to exercise some caution. Your post sails very close to giving medical advice.I recognised that it will not be relevant for your mother at this point but there will be other readers here on the borderline of independent living for whom retaining a high Vitamin D status will make the difference between falling and not falling, between being able to get out of a chair and walking to the door and not being able to do that.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Was sitting on the beach today, enjoying the sunshine, thinking about vitamin D and wondering why I got so riled about Ted's remarks, The it came to me - of course ! My Ma is a bit of a Health Nazi too - always banging on about vitamins, exercise and fresh air - including sunshine. One of her last campaigns was about fluoridisation of the water supply, she could bore on about it for hours - the trick was not to get her started. She would no doubt have read avidly all the endless literature Ted has available on his pet subject, but she in turn would have forced him to read about The Evils of Fluoride! So, for her sake, Ted, I forgive you, since you and my Ma are obviously soul mates. Now go away:o
My BIL - who, like half my family, works for the NHS suggests that if the care assessment reports that she requires no medical care, we engage a doctor who specialises in this area, and get him to make an independent assessment. If he finds that she does require medical care, then we will challenge SS. Thanks everyone for your help, support and ideas, I will post again when there is more newsAll Art is the transfiguration of the commonplace

Well said, daisyroots - and glad your BIL has given some support. All the best.0

Sorry, TUTP is the top up agreement between social services price and n/h price difference which the family agree to pay. Continuing care criteria has recently been revised and a lot more people are qualifing for it. Basically each area of ADL's (activities of daily living, sometimes called IADL's I being Independent) Each area is graded A,B,or C. A being all critera met and C being none. If she can not feed herself I would argue on a A banding (really its a
on the grounds she needs specialist involvement to prevent malnutrition. Make sure you are present at assessment and present worse case senerio (sp?), hard I know but will help your case. Social service will have a set price they pay, this is not secret info, and can only assume they are being wooly in the hope you stop asking for help and go away. Sadly everything is budget led this days!!
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
Thanks frannyann, this is really useful. The assessment has already taken place, and neither of us could be there, but if it goes against us, the more info like this we have to argue against the decision the better.:AAll Art is the transfiguration of the commonplace
