  • ok think i understand this. so the computer is wired in.

and that works on the net ok?
(if it doesnt disable it and just see if u can get on google)(then re-enable and try again if u cant then AVG is stopping you)

if the pc works fine, and its just the laptop we can talk u through how to connect via wireless

after this is done. u will just have a perment internet connection, and wont need to dial up every time. like when u use normal ADSL
  • how do I get the isp address? How do I check the setting in the router? When you say "Full hard reset", espresso, what exactly does that mean? I have tried turning off the router & restarting it - no joy! Label on router says something like "ISP default 10.0002

You need to log into the router where you will see it's connection status e.g. connected/disconnected.

You should not need to do a full hard reset, as that will erase your settings and put it back to factory defaults.

Download the Netgear manual from their site where it's all explained, step by step.

  • The PC DOES NOT connect to the net.The laptop (which is wireless) is unavailable so I cannot check if this works at all! The pc is connected to the router via cable to a network port on the PC.The icon shows the speed as 100mbts along with the duration of connection(as all pc's) They use high tesco speed broadband not dial up. Help please!!

  • as expresso said. u need to login to your router. then u can add in your own ISP settings in there...happy days
  • yeah basically first step is to check your router is connected properly. i use a netgear router also, so i presume you can connect in the same way as i do.

    1) load up an internet explorer window (or whichever broswer you use) -NOTE:it does not matter that you cant connect to the internet at this point

    2) in the address bar you usually type http://www...... etc, type: '192.168.0.1' ( without quote marks! -this SHOULD work, as it should be the standard ip address of the router)

    3) at this point it SHOULD ask you for a username and password for the router to log on to it and check its status. not sure what the default is... but you should know these. if you dont just try 'admin' as the username and 'password' as the password. (without the quotes!)

    4) this should log you into a router screen. there should be an option saying check router status (or connection status or something i cant remember!) firstly check what this says. itl either say connected or not. if you let me know what that says thatl be the first step!

if it IS connected then its probably an issue with the PCs network settings, or the AVG software. if it ISNT connected then its an issue with the ISP. jsut let us know n we will get back to you! :)
