Car accident - Insurance issue. Please advise?
Hi.
My partner today was involved in a road traffic accident, the third party came out of a side road and crashed into the side of my partners car.
With this being her first accident, she was shaken, and rushed taking down all the third partys details. She took down her name and reg but the third party lady refused to give her insurance company.
When my partner has given the information to her insurance, it turns out the reg she has written down is wrong. her insurance have said unless they get some information, they cannot proceed.
We have the third parties phone number but they are refusing to co-operate over the phone.
We also have contacted the police and have been told there is also not much they can do.
Are we at a loss here? we have a reg number which could possibly be one or two letters wrong but we don't know.
Is there any advice anyone has on what we could do?

You've got their phone number. Google it and see what comes up for a start.
Might help you trace them.
Also pass it on to the insurer. See how it goes.0 -
Google's, Facebook'd the lot. even gone as far as searching 192.com to find her. Nothing.
My partners insurance has also tried to ring her. but the women is refusing to give any information.
I have a gut feeling she hasn't got insurance as she kept saying 'it is not her car and she is on her dads insurance'0 -
Try using the DVLA tax check site
if you're only a couple of digits out you should get a hit for the car make before long.
Not conclusive but maybe a lever in.Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
tried this, along with the auto trader vehicle check.
Tried almost every combination or 'mistake' that I can think of, without going through the alphabet ofcourse!
We know it was an audi a4.
Don't know how possible it is for it to have dodgy plates on it?0 -
You may well be left with only one viable route - to claim off your own insurance.Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0

The police should be able to find the correct registration number. You know it's an A4 you know the colour, it's not hard work for them.
The road traffic act has not been complied with so report it as a non stop.0 -
Thanks for the help guys! I will be back onto the police in the morning if I hear nothing.
My partner didn't have any pen and paper on her at the time and instead of taking a picture of the reg, she typed it in on a note on her phone. she now thinks the last three letters may of been changed through spell check. so I'm trying to work out the different combinations as to what could of changed to the three we have. wish me luck!!0 -
A hard lesson, but for future reference the law requires any driver involved to provide his name and address, together with those of the car owner if different.
Phone numbers are not required and, as you've found out, may be useless.
Insurance details are only nesessary if someone is injured.0 -

I think searching the UK for a certain coloured Audi A4 will be a massive task!!
The lesson to be learnt here is to take plenty of photographs if you're ever involved in an accident.0 -
Go for a drive down this side Road looking for an Audi with bodywork damage0
