Exactly. They are not the same for people on £24000 as they are for people on £39000 though. Original poster was surprised how come people don't invest - I done the math explaining why. You figures do not dispute my figures (apart from ltv but it is a bit of a splitting hairs exercise).
By the way what average was that £39000 one ? Because if it is mean it is meaningless in the context of this discussion. Was it combined household income by any chance ?

Not splitting hairs. Merely providing hard facts. Your maths appeared to be somewhat pessimistic. Many people don't focus on retirement saving, at least significantly, until later in life.

To be fair most sources seemed to quote median. Those 39000 ought to be either combined household income (more likely) or mean (less likely as even for mean looks too high)
Continuing on topic : I am sure everybody heard about someone who lost money / had expectations not met in investments. So people do not want to put money somewhere where it can happen.
The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.

So how does fact that most mortgages are 80% ltv disproves my math - that a lot , may be majority of people have disposable income while working and bringing up children not vastly different to state pension and for them saving money fir retirement would have little sense ?
you have not replied questions about 39000 figure.
