I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -

Diversification.
Yes, diversification, but do you outperform a FTSE All Share tracker?

I think a lot of people out there don't have enough spare cash to have a "portfolio". People who earn little probably prioritise cash savings. I am doing that, and I may start a SS Isa next year, but it will be small amounts, so does seem pointless.

My direct shareholdings in those sectors are only 9% of my portfolio in total, overall it has still done much better than cash. You may be right to avoid them at this time, but I am reluctant to sell them when they are out of favour (only to put the money in something thats in favour _pale_), after all people are still going to need what they produce.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -
