Petition to government to change parking law
Comments

sorry - duplicate postMy very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).
For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0 -

*Yes, they've been doing this over successive governments.londonTiger wrote: »p.s. the petition is dumb. you should remove the £10 suggestion. its too low and people will never pay for parking and will just pay the fine wen they get caught.0 -

Parking is neither a privilege, nor a right, what a ridiculous thing to say.
Parking is a commercial transaction. You want to park your car, you buy a house with a garage, park in your front garden, rent a garage from the Council, or buy a Residents' permit. You want to park at the station, you buy a ticket.
Whilst the aims of this petition are commendable, it is bound to fail to collect enough signatures. Not enough people care, there has been just one thanks on this very partial forum, which says it all.You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -

If you believe that Beavis represented himself in the Supreme Court you really haven't been keeping up.
And who were these "lot of people" "telling him not to take this on"? I don't suppose even you communicated your obviously-legally-qualified opinion to him.Je suis Charlie.0 -
@zenmaster, thank you for your intelligent contribution to the discussion.
On the subject of privilege, any business that expects me to regard it as a privilege to park on their premises in order to spend my money with them finds out pretty sharpish that they were privileged to receive my custom, and that privilege just got withdrawn.Je suis Charlie.0 -

I thought £10 for a trivial infraction is pretty fair. Presumably better wording should be "£10 or the overdue parking fee, whichever is higher" or "£10 + the overdue parking fee". The payment rate would be a whole lot higher too.0 -

. Yes I've been amazed at the apparent lack of interest shown by the general public since the Beavis-PE SC judgement. Although I don't buy the Daily Fail everyday, I do buy it on Saturdays and I bought it on the day following the judgement announcement, expecting there to be a big splash - but there wasn't, and I've seen nothing in it since, not even in the 'Letters' section (remember, a couple or so years ago, the DF ran quite a campaign against PPCs).
Had Mr Beavis been successful, the story would have been splashed across all the nationals and TV stations, no doubt accompanied with the headline 'Daily Mail Campaign Defeats Parking Bullies'. 'How the DM won the battle - exclusive report page 8'. 'Kim Kardashian's bum exposed in wind tunnel incident - pictures page 17'.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0
