Petition to government to change parking law

Amend Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 to restrict charges for overstaying Parking

Being charged £100 for overstaying at a private carpark is unfair.
Following the supreme court case Bevis vs ParkingEye, Parliament need to make an amendment to add a section to Schedule 4 of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012, to restrict charges for overstaying to a much smaller sum (say £10)

In light of the recent ruling there has to be an acceptable limit on charges for overstaying. £100 for staying as little as 5mins over a free or £1 parking space is TOO MUCH.

Motorists unite. This is the last way to stop companies like ParkingEye charging whatever they want. Why should they limit it to £100 after this court hearing? Sign up so we get heard.

I'd have gone further, and called for a ban on private parking companies using ANPR for parking enforcement, unless it was to facilitate a barrier-operated pay-on-exit system.
This would force them to properly manage their car parks*

*but then they would not make as much money......

Simon could only wish. I mean, c'mon this is a man who once traded as Captain Clampit not even a LibDem would go there. The more likely scenario is, perhaps, a director or two from Crapita supping at somewhere like White's, Boodle's or Brook's with a "member of the establishment".
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

the bevis !!!! messed up. a lot of people were telling him not to take this on because he would lose against a trained barrister and have ramifications with all consumer law.

And it has, now penuitive measures in b2c could be put into all contracts, with companies citing bevis vs parkineye as an example wereby they can impose admin costs in order to deter breach/change in contract.

the mse idiots couldn't sit still with the idea of bevis going to court. now you saw the outcome. this gives strength to parking eye.

mps wont vote for this, these parking invoices are expense claims for them.

p.s. the petition is dumb. you should remove the £10 suggestion. its too low and people will never pay for parking and will just pay the fine wen they get caught. £10 is less than the cost of all day parking in a lot of places. the council street parking charges £4 an hour.

if i had to shop in london, and might need to park for 1.5 hours, do i pay £6 or just risk it and not pay and possibly get £10 pcn... im risking it all the way.

just keep it just low or in line with what local authorities charge,

Parking is a privilege, not a right.

If you are unable to follow a few simple rules in accordance with that privilege then don't park there. It's as simple as that.

My reform to the parking laws would be as follows -

First offence: A couple of heavies would come round armed with baseball bats and take out most of the glassware (windows, lights etc.).

Second offence: Car would be crushed.

Third offence: Car would be crushed with you in it.

it is hopefully just coincident that the line "Parking is a privilege not a right" happens to be the same as that often spouted by the leader of what has been described as the "...one of the most socially dangerous organisations in the UK" step forward, The British Parking Association. The oldest trade protection association for the private parking world.

Actually I entirely agree with the line even though I suspect that I would be lumped together by London Tiger with those he calls "the MSE idiots" because I assist those who are properly described as victims of the PPC skimdustry.

Were you to listen to some of the siren voices in this thread who appear to relish the fact that Barry Beavis lost his case, if only on a I-told-you-so basis, one would think that Barry - and many of the others who come here seeking genuine help - were free-loaders and chancers when nothing could be further from the truth. It is a shame that those same siren voices betray their ignorance both of the facts of Barry's case, the truth behind the vast majority of threads that appear here everyday and the potential impact of the judgment for everyone. As for recommending violence from someone whose username would suggest they had at least some buddhist knowledge need I say more than "karma"?
